Oasis in the Heart of Industrial Heavy Woolen District of Dewsbury

So we know the area well and knew it was in the middle of an industrial area, but it it an oasis of calm once there. I'm surprised by the other reviews, it's so quiet most of the locals don't even know it's there. Yes it is an industrial area but there is only one factory/building place that makes any noise, and then it's minimal. When we arrived we couldn't find the owner/warden but one of the friendly people who live in the narrowboats in the adjoining marina showed us around and where all the facilities were. Good flat pitches with plenty of space to get set up correctly and level. I also had to help someone else when they showed up and didn't know either. We didn't manage to find the shower, but the toilets were generally clean, and you can either use the portacabin ones or the ones under the pub. The portacabin ones do need a code to get in but the only day it was locked I couldn't get it to work. The pub itself is great, loads of seating outside and pretty lights and music on. It does shut early too so the music goes off too, and they've got a great play area that can be used anytime. Didn't eat in there though but a good selection of beers. Lovely walks along the canal and down the river Calder, in fact if you follow the canal and cross over the old railway bridge you can walk alongside all the way into Dewsbury. There are rats on site but that's only to be expected in the countryside/alongside water. Ignore the negative reviews, if you want a central location and a bargain, give it a shot!
