We stayed at Shamwari overnight on route to Dover, Julie & Brian were the perfect hosts. The site is peaceful and very clean and pretty the views are amazing. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay.
Perfect peaceful CL with fantastic hospitality. Will definately be back
We have visited this lovely peaceful CL many times as the hospitality by Julie and Brian is exemplary.
Based in rural Kent, this site has a lot to offer especially the quietness and surrounding countryside. The pitches are very large in a massive field away from the owners home.
There is always a great welcome from Julie and Brian as they greet you on arrival and then leave you alone, only there if you need help which is always very forthcoming.
The site is also a great base for visiting many attractions and with the ferry ports only about 30 mins away its a great stopover prior to leaving or coming back from France.
We both love this site and the great hospitality and will definitely be back!!
Beware of the rules
We have been members since 1975 and have visited numerous CL’s and club sites, but we never have had such an unpleasant experience as we received at Shamwari.
On the face of it the site lives up to the other reviews on here. Until that is you break an uninformed rule prior to booking. We were evicted.
Our crime was that we allowed our Niece and Nephew, (who arrive on foot as a surprise, to see us, both club members) into our awning. They had walked 2 miles and just about to sit down when the site owner appeared. He informed us that we had broken the site rules and we were all to go immediately. Hearing this, our Niece and Nephew said that they will go, explaining that we didn’t know that they were coming. They were escorted off site there and then, with no buy or leave.
Next morning when my wife was returning after taking our 2 dogs for their morning walk, she was told that we must be off site by 11.00am, this was at about 8.45. Now both my Wife and I are in our mid-seventies. To pack up a full awning and van in around 2 hours is a big issue for us. Needless to say, there was no time for breakfast. If we had known that the site didn’t allow any visitors, we wouldn’t have booked it. You have been warned.

Price is misleading!
Advertising a price of £18 per night, but charging £30 for a single night stay feels greedy. And this should be advertised on the club site.

The Best CL
We have stayed at a fair number of CLs in the past years and Shamwari is the best.
You are met at the gate by Brian who gives you ‘clicker’ for the gate and a folder of useful info about local pubs, restaurants and walks.
There is an ‘honesty’ shop with some essentials in the fridge and freezer. Great when you just fancy some ice cream or a beer.
The site itself is Immaculately maintained
Well placed for easy travel to attractions in the area.
We stayed for 3 nights and had such a relaxing time.
Brian and Julie have created something special.
Highly recommended
We will be back.
Peaceful stay in a lovely site
Met by Brian on arrival with welcome pack and all the information you need for the surrounding area, added bonus of honesty shop and bike hire if required. Lovely clean site, well maintained and we were lucky to be the only pitch occupied. Lots of local villages you can walk to with plenty of local pubs. Definitely be returning.
Wonderful Return Visit
Another visit to this wonderfully peaceful site.
Site to ourselves and so surprised that other members have not found this hidden gem.
As usual, Brian met us on arrival with his warm welcome.
Had another lovely long weekend here and shall be returning once again soon.
The views are amazing with the added bonus of watching the Spitfires flying around from the local Headcorn Airdrome
Thanks again to Brian and Julie.
All a CL should be
A really lovely CL in a very pretty, quiet area of Kent. The site is well kept nice large pitches set away from the main house and has everything you need. The little shop is brilliant in case you forgot anything or need a few bits and pieces like milk, bread etc and the prices are so reasonable. Brian and Julie are lovely hosts and give you an information pack and lots of details about the area. Also lovely walks from the site and very quiet roads so very safe. Would definitely recommend it for a nice relaxing stay.

Beautiful Shamwari
We’ve just had 4 wonderful days at this gorgeous CL, Brian and Julie are the best hosts and a mine of information on where to visit and places to eat. A very peaceful site with lovely countryside views, everywhere is immaculately kept , close mown grass , lovely big pitches too. Great honesty shop with essentials. Would highly recommend a visit.
Wonderful
What a lovely peaceful site.
This is our second visit and will certainly be back again.
Nice welcome from Brian & Julie who took the time to explain everything on site.
Very tidy and clean site with the added bonus of having lovely views.
Site level and plenty of space between vans also has a handy honesty shop stocked with milk bread and the essential things like wine and beer🤭
Can’t wait for our next visit.
