We’ll Be Back 😀

A well presented, clean and tidy site. The pitches are well spaced out, generous and the grass kept short. Carol and Martin, Shamwari’s Owners are most welcoming and helpful and on hand if you need them, (they know the ‘hidden’ local beauty spots visitors often miss) Close by are the Seaside Towns of Lyme Regis and Charmouth both great for fossil hunters, Seaton, Beer and Sidmouth. Further afield is Westbay, (Bridport,) Abbotsbury, Weymouth (1 hr) and the Isle of Portland. Local shops, garage and Tesco’s store are half a mile away at Axminster and another garage and large Tesco store a few miles away at Seaton. Shamwari is in a valley surrounded by scenic countryside views, whilst there we saw some fabulous sunsets. It was lovely to hear the birds singing and nesting, but do listen out for the owl. Yes! we will be back again. 👍😀

Lovely site.

A nice site . Neatly mowed grassed field with adjoining field where you can walk the dog. Spacious pitches. Fenced off area for waste disposal etc. Lovely owners who were very welcoming & lent us a folder of tourist information. However, a big drawback for us was the location next to a busy narrow road with no verge or pavement and no footpaths to avoid the road. We prefer to park up and then walk from the site and this wasn’t possible.

Response from the Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review and we are delighted you enjoyed the site and your stay at this lovely CL. The CL owners have been in touch to advise that their road is an ‘A’ road, busy at peak times and is bordered by Devon banks and planted with hedges, which can make you feel as though it is narrow. Please be advised though the road is not single track and there is plenty of room for both lanes of traffic. Unfortunately there is no verge or pavement into town. The CL Owner has advised that many people do walk, but that they would not advise any of their  guests to do so. We would also like to advise that in the field opposite the CL Site, the CL Owners have a circular mown path around the wildflower meadow which has been created so that guests with dogs can take them on a small walk, on leads, early morning and last thing at night, without leaving the CL. Other guests are welcome to walk here too. We hope this helps clear up any confusion.

Lovely Site

Easy to find, just off main road. The site is immaculate, with everything you need. Carole and Martin are really helpfully giving a folder with local info on arrival. Views from the site are breathtaking. Only one niggle it is on a busy road so hard to walk or cycle from site. Would highly recommend a visit.

One of the nicest CLs we have stayed on.

We had a very warm welcome from Carole when we arrived at Shamwari. She provided us with a large folder of information about attractions in the immediate area, and also further afield. It is a fairly large Cl with 5 very spacious grass pitches which are well separated. The CL faces west with panoramic views over the countryside, and as a result some fabulous sunsets when we were there. There is a screened area in a corner of the CL for disposal of waste, waste water and toilet emptying, with recycling facilities and a tap with hose for cleaning . The fresh water tap is several metres away to keep it clear of the “dirty” area. There is a little road noise from the nearby A35 and the A358 from which the CL is accessed, but this was not intrusive at all, and certainly did not prevent us from hearing the bird song! There is plenty to see in the area, and Shamwari is close to Axminster, Seaton (visit the Wetlands), Sidmouth, Lyme Regis and Chard (Forde Abbey). This is an excellent place to stay and you will be assured of a very warm welcome. At just £12 per night for a pitch and 2 people this is also a real bargain. We will certainly be returning in the future.

Excellent site

We recently stayed at Shamwari for a week, and can honestly say that in over 14 years of using CL sites across the country, we have never met such friendly and obliging site owners. Their welcome was amazing and they made our stay with them an absolute pleasure. The site facilities were well laid out and maintained to a high standard. The views are breathtaking. We can't wait to return and would very strongly recommend this site. Hateleys & Jasp.

Quiet and peaceful site

Easily accessible CL just off the A35 close to Axminster; ideal if you are touring equally ideal as a restful CL for longer stopovers. The flat grass pitches offer plenty of room for everyone and the views from the site are beautiful. A warm welcome was received from Carole and Martin and we given some good information about where we could easily go in our motorhome. Dog friendly; unfortunately no dog walk directly from the site however 5 minutes from the site you will find hundreds of acres of forest and nature reserve and various routes to get you onto the East Devon Way (40 miles of footpath) and an AONB, if that’s what you are looking for. If you are looking for a beach or bird watching then Exmouth, Lyme Regis and Seaton are close by. Plenty to do in this area no matter how long you stay and a place we shall return to.

Welcoming & peaceful

A very warm welcome from Gordon & Carole, owners of this CL. The site is situated conveniently to the main road, quite near to Axminster. It is fairly level, grassed and more than spacious enough for the maximum number of caravans or motorhomes allowed. Access is good but do make sure to slow down and indicate well in advance of reaching the entrance as you will come upon it quite quickly. The road into the site is very well surfaced and goes past the owners bungalow. Views from this elevated site are excellent especially later in the day as it faces West. A very well laid out service point is provided in one corner of the site with separate disposal areas for chemical toilets and grey water, drinking water, non-drinking water and waste bins for recycling and landfill. The site is well fenced off from surrounding farm land and feels very secure. We noticed little traffic noise or other disturbance and the birdsong in the mornings was pleasing. Taken all together this is an excellent, well run CL which could be set as an example to many others. Thank you Gordon & Carole for a most pleasant stay.
