When is a CL not a CL?

I booked via the phone being asked for full membership details by mrs white, all good then? Well no, we arrived late afternoon to find 6 outfits already on the CL field! I phoned the house and was told I was on the 'wrong field', drive through farmyard and park on fenced off grass at the end. Where are the facilities? Well, none except a tap, not what it states in CC book. Hold on, there is electric, but not as we know it......a heavy duty electric reel running from a barn, across a ditch and over to us and supplied with a plastic bag and half a blue tub.....to protect it from the rain....not really health and safety, nor very CC! MR White seemed to think it OK anyway, so no toilet or shower nor rubbish bins as advertised on their blurb for us down on the 'billy no mates' field, but it was peaceful. He did 'only' charge us £10.50 for the night, but not sure it makes it right does it? Yes I know we could have left, but it is full on holiday time, spaces on honourable CL hard to come by, so we stayed. Were we unlucky or is overbooking common?

Keep this a secret!!

What a lovely site and such a wonderful family. We have just returned from our Easter break (first visit) to this CL. We were lucky to be around at the end of calving - 5 born this weekend and we saw two just a short while after they arrived. Bought some steaks and can't wait to try them -sorry calves!! Mr White senior is such an great character and his dog Mr Forest and two pygmy goats follow him around. This is a CL you want to keep to yourself because if too many people find out about it, you might not be able to get in another time. Great meal at the Eels Foot , good for visiting Southwold, Dunwich Heath and Aldeburgh. We will return - hopefully soon.

Beautiful site

Stayed here for 5 nights and had a wonderful relaxing time. Located in a beautiful area of Suffolk, near to RSPB Minsmere site. A map shows walks around the farm. Camping area lovely and flat (except for the moles !) and grassy with hard standing if required. On an organic farm which has a farm shop selling their own and local produce. Bought 2 lovely beef fillets from their own herd which were delicious and SO tender. Lovely friendly welcome and very helpful. Facilities basic but perfectly clean and well kept. As organic farmers they were into recycling and our food waste went to feed the pig. Will definately visit again.

Superb Surprise.

Just back from a week at this delightful rural pretty C/L which exceeded all our expectations. Lovely large grassy pitches & very adaquate clean loos etc. A great welcome from the White family who are so helpful with info about the surrounding area & interesting places to visit. Mr White is a very interesting character! The site is well placed for the area especially Minsmere RSPB reserve & we ran out of time to explore so will have to go back sometime. We were spoilt with fantastic weather but even without, it would still be a very attractive place to be. The farm has organic meat & vegetables for sale as well - very tasty! A return visit is definitely on the cards.

wonderful site, friendly hosts

Just got back from a week at this lovely site. The facilities are excellent, plenty of toilets and a shower and kept clean and tidy. The location is very rural and peaceful yet close to some pretty market towns and great coastal walks. If you like walking, there are also lots of walks on the farm. The owners are really lovely and laid back, not intrusive but very welcoming and there if you need them. Pitches are spacious and the grass is mown regularly. Can't really say enough nice things about the site and location, but we'll definately be back! Thank you!

We'll be back!

We were very impressed. Mr White is very welcoming and informative about the local area and a very interesting gentleman to talk to. Look out for Forest the dog, he's a real character. We were told to feel free to wander around the farm and our girls loved to see the pigs and new born calves. There are some nice, rural woodland walks close by, incorporating the farmland. The facilities are clean and tidy and the field is kept nicely mown with a grass wilderness in the centre with paths cut from the pitches to the facilities. Although we didn't try the home grown meat from the on-site farm shop, we heard from one of our neighbours that is was the best steak they had ever had, so thats on the list of things to do for definite next time! Peakhill Farm is also a good base for the coastal resorts of Suffolk. All in all a very peaceful, welcoming, friendly site. We will most definitely be back.
