Lovely rural setting with huge sky and lovely sunsets

We stayed here for seven nights. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The grass pitches drain very well and are large and flat. Mains power is metered - a very good system in our opinion. There is an adequate electricity allowance included in the pitch fee which we only just exceeded over the week, so you only pay for the excess. The CL is secured with an electric gate - a good feature. The location is near the lovely villages of Ryhall and Belmesthorpe where there are several pubs in easy reach. Stamford is nearby and well worth a day's visit. There is also easy access to A1 north and south and we did visit a number of places wider afield such as Belton House (NT) Rutland Water and Oakham. The views from the site are lovely, especially the beautiful sunsets. Helen provides detailed guidance on the approach through Stamford but you can alternatively avoid Stamford by coming off the A1 north or south and taking a minor road to Ryhall. This CL is relatively new and we think it is a gem that will only get better as it matures. Raymond

Long weekend

Visited for 3 nights over school holidays. Great site, good size pitches with lovely views. Large dog walk on site. Nice walks to village(10 mins),Stamford(1hr) and Uffington(45mins-Bertie Arms pub very nice). Easy to find on edge of village with security gate as well. 10kw electric is included in the pitch price per night-we used our quota over 4 nights,so you would need to be economical in the winter if heating is on,although we did cook on electric. Each pitch has an isolator switch/meter in the information hut,and you take a photo of meter on arrival and departure to work out if you owe anymore-very simple process and you can leave money in the postbox or pay by BACS. Overall a very nice site in a great location, but I would be wary in cold snaps,as could get expensive!.

Tranquility

We stayed for 3 nights and were not disappointed. We chose this site on previous reviews and they were very accurate, the site is level with nice views and quiet. It is only a couple of miles from Stamford and a short walk to the village pub which serves good food and fine ale! We will return soon!

Excellent stay

We stayed in our motorhome for three nights in early July, on the way home after a month on the road. First time I have booked and kept in touch by text - very easy and quick, could set a trend! The site has huge flat pitches, set well apart, with great views and lovely sunsets. And skylarks. Courtney came to welcome us and gave us loads of information about walks and the local area. We were lucky with the weather and did a super walk which took in Uffington, a path along the disused canal (now a nature reserve) and into Stamford. Lots to see and lots of cafes and eating places, easy to see why the town is popular with film makers. Walking from the CL to Stamford across fields takes about 40 minutes. On our second day we cycled to Burghley House and spent a couple of hours in their splendid gardens. The ticket is valid for a year so we might have to visit again. The last stop before going home from a long trip can be a bit of a downer, but not here - thank you. As per the previous review, there could be an additional charge for electricity if you use more than the allowance, but it was plenty for us.

Peaceful sunsets and birdsong

We stayed over the Platinum Jubilee weekend. The site is small and well kept with nicely mown pitches (no clippings) and separated by low hedges (that still need to grow!). Very easy secure access from the road through a keypad barrier. Each pitch has fantastic views to the west to pick up the sunset. A motor mover or lots of pushing needed to get into the ideal pitching spot, but the pitches are pretty flat. Helen was very welcoming, popping in on our first morning to make sure everything was ok and working as expected. The site has a dedicated electric meter for each pitch in the information shed, with a reading needed on arrival and leaving, and any excess electricity paid for. 10kWh is included in the pitch fee per night, which was more than enough for us. However, it gave us the opportunity to charge our electric car on site if needed, a very welcome facility. The area is lovely, lots of walking or cycling available, with Stamford a very nice town. Rutland water is well within reach as are Melton Mowbray and Grantham. A great stay!

Aptly named

We stayed at Skylark Barn for three nights. The skylark song was beautiful. Lovely, far reaching views toward Stamford. Quiet site with pitches nicely placed. Had a lovely meal at The Millstone in Ryhall.

Top of the list

We stayed on pitch 1 from 9th to 13th September 2021 and could have stayed for a month if able. Amazingly peaceful and so well situated. Izzy and George were the first to greet us that evening followed later by Courtney and Helen. We were made so welcome and the children were so entertaining, especially George! We really can't add to the other 5 star reviews as they pretty much covered everything, and look forward to revisiting the site next year. Thank you for a great stay Mike and June

Wonderful stay

New site with hosts that are very welcoming. Tranquility and beautiful views are the order of the day here. For some reason when I search on CAMC site around Rutland and Stamford it does not show but a google search finds it?!? The only negative comment would be that we had only booked two nights, would happily stay here longer. Highly recommend to all and we wish Helen and Courtney all the success for the future x

A Beautiful Place to 'Go To', not Drive Through!

My husband and I arrived at this site intending to stay the night or possibly 2. It turned out we stayed 5 and would have remained longer had it been possible to accommodate us...we loved this place! We enjoyed to site enormously, Helen couldn't have been more helpful, recommending places to visit, supplying us with routes and maps. These were added to by Courtney and every single recommendation turned out to be everybit as interesting, beautiful and immersed in wildlife as we could have imagined. The campsite provided the excellent base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, towns, villages and magnificient churches. We walked along footpaths into Stamford, a stunning town with history, fine architecture, stunning churches and well served with cafes (fantastic Scandi cafe for excellent coffee), bakeries (Henderson's is exceptional) and a Friday market, one of the best we've enjoyed. Local produce is excellent and after we'd shopped, we tore into our french stick, tiny pizzas and quiches from Mormor's Swedish Kitchen (a stall which made faire from 'renound' London bakeries pale into insignificance!) and incredible pork pies from Nelson's butchers, all eaten following a walk around the beautiful water meadows in the heart of town. We thought Burghley House would be interesting, it's jaw dropping! We delighted in walking through the estate (vehicular and pedestrian gates close 'officially' at 6pm), seeing the rooftops of the house appear over the hill (when entering on foot from Stamford) and then watching the magnificent house slowly come into full view. Walking around the exterior of this Elizabethian masterpeice made for a memorable afternoon in its own right but we had to come back the next day to explore the interior and gardens...worth every penny of the entrance fee. Only by going inside can you end your visit in the Orangery Restaurant/ cafe and we've never enjoyed afternoon tea so much surrounded by lavender and roses whilst listening to the sound of water trickling down the water feature in the centre of the pond. The end to a perfect day extended well into the afternoon however, returning to Skylark barn to watch the sun set over the fields and the skylarks rise and fall over the fields late into the evening. The Bluebell pub (Caroline and Aubrey), 10 minutes walk away is a welcoming and traditional country pub with a good range of beers and quality meals, Anything this campsite lacked in terms of its newness was more than compensated by the view and the lovely family who run it. We wanted to stay longer, Helen and Courtney were superb hosts and their children Isabel, George and Winston great characters...one of them needs to write a book when they 'grow up', their childhood strikes us as idylic!! Thank you one and all, we look forward to returning and resuming our explorations of the magnificent county that is Rutland!

Great CL

It was great to find this newly opened CL and we were Helen's first customer to book for 4-6th June 2021. We would definately stay here again if in the area. We were lucky to have lovely weather and watched a beautiful sunset. Plenty of area for dog exercising on the field. Helen was very friendly and gave us plenty of information on the locality and places to visit further afield. This is a good CL and will be even better when planting to divide pitches grows further and improvement is made to the grass on the pitches. Thank you Pauline & Kevin
