What a great site. We’d happily recommend and will, I hope, return there. Well located too.

Spent a week here in late Nov early Jan. Easy regular buses to Edinburgh centre, lots to see within easy car ride (eg Kelpies & Falkirk Wheel), Rosslyn Chapel is about 100 yards away! Good pub in the village (10 mins on foot) and very nice owners.

Motorhome waste water disposal at this site

Agree with all the good pointe in other reviews, BUT waste water disposal is sixty feet from the nearest access for a motorhome, and uphill, so unless you have a separate mobile tank, beware! Sign saying "please dispose of all grey water in chemical disposal point. Not in hedge CCTV in operation" Also no sign of any Covid-19 precautions -- no hand sanitiser, no QR code. No idea where the information room is -- we were not told on arrival. No welcome pack.

CL Experience at Slatebarns CL

CL Experience at Slatebarns My wife and I moved home recently and had never experienced any of the local CL campsite around our old living area of Penicuik, Midlothian. So with this in mind we then arranged to visit family back in the area and found a CL site at Roslin (Midlothian). WHAT A JOY!! A fantastic CL site. A great welcome from Robin, Moyra and the dogs. This is without doubt one of the best CLs we have visited. Close enough to all local amenities with a gastro pub, local post office, local shops including a small Mini Market & CO-OP. The Café and Pub are fantastic friendly hubs with great service and community spirit. Roslin Glen is a fantastic walk and dog friendly. Driving in you pass Rosslyn Chapel which is also well worth a visit. The coffee shop here serves a good coffee with some home baking on offer. Links to near-by Edinburgh attractions are very good from the village, Lothian Transport bus services are well detailed and so cheap, there is even a Night Bus running hourly all night. This is a lovely quiet site in a beautiful location and is well manicured. The owners keep the site in fantastic condition thinking of everything that is required on a CL site. A pleasure to be able to stay and support this CL. Robert & Gillian Meikle

Motorhomer - Great site for visiting Edinburgh

Peaceful and quiet to come back to after a long day in Edinburgh. 5 mins walk to 37 bus costing just £4.50 for an all day pass to go on as many buses as needed. Site has ample space for each of the visitors and great, easily accessible amenities. Perfect for us touring, three nights here to give us 2 full days out ending with a wonderful visit to Rosslyn Chapel between the site and the bus stop. Thank you, only touched on things we'd like to do so think we'll be back

Great for visiting Edinburgh

This was not our first visit to Slatebarns, it is now our go to location when we want to have a few days in Edinburgh. It is a great little site, not big but the pitches are well spaced, so you never feel crowded. All the pitches are hard standing, in amongst beautiful mowed grass. Getting into Edinburgh could not be simpler, just walk back to the village and catch the number 37 bus, or take the car down to Straiton P&R and catch the much quicker X37 (which only runs on weekdays, early morning and early evening). Lothian buses have a ticketing app which is simple to use, however the buses will accept contactless payment for single adult tickets. One mention for the Original Rosslyn Inn, which is near the junction for Chapel Loan. The food is superb, with generous servings and great value for money. The beer is great as well.

A little Gem

My husband and I booked in here for 11 nights ( had a mix up about no of nights but dealt with in good humour by Mr Crawford) We have previously stayed at either Club site or at Mortonhall. We decided to try this CL as we were going to be busy every day helping our son move house. It was just perfect and plan to use this site from now on. The pitches are well laid out and grass very neat. There is a toilet but I wish other guests would leave it as they would like to find it. There is a great walk down into the glen which is great for dogs and it is a 5 minute walk to Rosslyn Chapel which is stunning - try and attend the service on Sunday as we were made very welcome and it adds to the experience. 5 minutes further on is the village with a Coop , a great pub and nice coffee shop. There are buses every 20 minutes into the centre of Edinburgh with night buses enabling you to enjoy the nightlife.

Slatebarns CL

Lovely site in a lovely location, but we saw it at it's worse, we had continuous rain for the 5 days we were there which resulted in puddles on the road way and wellies / shoes was needed to walk on the grass to the toilet and water point. The owners had no control on the weather but I suggest some hard-standing path to the toilets would be helpful. Roslyn chapel is a 5 minutes walk away, there is a walk to Roslyn Glen country park, which we did not use as it was muddy due to the rain. Ideal location to visit Edinburgh and other villages and easy to get to towing a caravan.

Nice and Quiet

A nice quiet site with easy access and convenient for all sorts of local attractions. A friendly welcome from the owners, plenty of dog walking areas nearby and loads of rabbits.  And now, a poem :- In The Stillness. As the day passes to night and the stars brightly glow, The heavens high in the sky and the still waters flow. Among the long grass when morning comes around, The rabbits come out to graze as there is no earthly sound. By daylight and sun up the world is calling to the sight and sound of, Birdsong and the flow goes with around. Margery Rayson.

wonderful

Robin and Moyra gave us the warmest welcome ever. What a delightful CL. It is kept in pristine condition and the hard standings helped us with awful weather for our 28 day stay. One thing to note is that rubbish and recycling is better here than on any other site on which we have stayed. We hope to return in 2016. The Crawford family are a shining example of how to run the perfect CL site.
