South Port O' Spittal a Stunning CL camp site.

We have been a bit remiss for a long time. We first visited this CL when it was first opened around 18/19 years ago. We come back each year either once or twice, more if possible if possible. That may give the reader a sense of how we regard the site and owners. We have been all around the British Isles but return here more often than not. Ian Beck a busy farmer and a friendly giant of a man runs the CL. He tries to accommodate all who come to stay and will always attempt to sort out any queries or problems you may have. Ian is constantly looking to improve the facilities here. During the Covid outbreak he installed fresh water points for each pitch and these remain, making life just that bit easier and safer for all. At present he is working on updating the site showers and utilities. It should be remembered that as a farmer Ian may not always be on hand to direct you to a pitch, but there are plenty to choose from, something to suite most people. A more tranquil and quiet place in Scotland would be hard to find, with stunning views across the sea to Ireland and Belfast on clear days. There are plenty of interesting places to visit around the immediate area and either up the coast towards Ayr or further inland. There are an abundance of gardens to visit and wander around. Lots of places to eat out, some which can equal or sometimes surpass many more expensive restaurants elsewhere both in food quality and service. Portpatrick hosts a good few, as does Stranraer. Then moving just a bit up the coast at Kirkoswald there is Souter Jonnies Inn, again serving excellent food. A bit further on up the coast, Ayr boasts plenty of good shopping for those that want it. There are many more in and about the area, Newton Stewart being one and far too many more to mention. As a CL site I believe it is exceptional.
