One drawback

This is a CL which ought to be simply wonderful but has one major drawback which, for us, spoilt it completely.  There is a very pleasant area for pitching with plenty of space and a pleasant view. However, the land slopes uphill  and the further up the hill you go the further you are from the one and only tap.  We had a 300 metre pull up from the tap to our caravan which for a couple in the 70's proved quite hard work with a full Aquaroll. As the farm is a dairy farm and therefore by definition has a piped water supply across its land we were puzzled by the lack of a tap adjacent to the pitches.  There was one further disappointment. The two dustbins (no re-cycling) were directly under the tractor diesel tank where there had been plenty of spillage from diesel fills.  When we arrived the bins were full of rubbish, when we left after four days the bins had not been emptied. This could be a really lovely CL with just a little more thought and attention to detail.

Southfield Farm

As others have noted, this is a little gem far enough away from civilisation to be peaceful, yet not too far to Malmesbury (nearest town - tip visit the bakery which does very large and yummy cakes).  We were expecting problems due to the recent wet weather but were pleasantly surprised to find the field well drained and able to pitch with no problems at all. Lovely views over mixed arable/grazing fields.  Yes, there is a walk to the drinking water and CDP, but this is after all a working farm.  Some care is needed on approach to the farm as it is as the handbook says, at the end of a narrow lane but don't let this put you off.

Super Site

Booked in for 2 nights but ended up staying for 6, it was that good. Very pleasant owners with an excellent knowledge of the surrounding area. The main pitching area has about 6 EHU's but we stayed on a large flat area of grass in front of the farmhouse with our own EHU. The pitching areas are well cared for - only one water point but it was at our end of the site so no problems. The site is approached by a private track which is a bit narrow but again no problems were encountered. Some lovely walks across adjoining fields. Malmesbury is about 20 mins across the fields. Another caravan owner complained about the smell but it is a working dairy farm, what do you expect!! Pay a visit - you wont be disappointed

Lovely, welcoming site.

we have just returned from a lovely week staying on this site, and can really recommend it. Despite the awful weather recently, the site was dry and well-maintained. The kids loved the space, walks and the the farmyard. The owners were very welcoming (just right), and everyone we passed in the village was very friendly. It's a great base to see Wilts, and we had a fabulous week away. Thank you!

Lovely place

We have stayed here twice now and love it. Owners very welcoming, and very helpful at towing caravans in and out in the inclement weather!! Spacious site, lovely walking locally, delightful walk into Malmesbury. Very convenient for the Cotswolds, Badminton, Gatcombe etc. Plenty of electric points, but it would be nice to have a water point on the field. We shall be back this year.
