Great site spoilt by abuse of 5 van rule

We do our homework to find the right CL for us and thought Spruce Gill's 1.5 acre lawned orchard was ideal. That was till our arrival when we discovered we were the 11th van on site! For the first 7 nights the van tally never dropped below 10 and then never below 6. The site has in total 13 hook-ups either in the orchard or paddock in front, separated by a low fence. Even with the two areas we were still cramped up, the van coming on next to us pitching only 4.5 metres away, not what you expect on a large site. Sue wanted them to pitch even closer contrary to club regulations. Re view, great from the paddock but not from the orchard due to the vans parked in the paddock. Generally the site was clean and tidy but I would suggest Sue addresses issues relating to the persistent cess pit smell from the drain by the fresh water tap at the facility block and to fit grab rails in the walk in shower. Other members on site also expressed concern and disappointment at the excessive number of vans which seems to be a regular occurrence.

Stunning piece of Heaven

What a stunning site. Perfect in every way. We stayed here for 3 blissful nights over the August bank holiday and can truly say we didn't want to leave. Mr and Mrs Smith have got the site spot on. Lovely clean toilet and showers stacks of information leaflets plus Mrs Smith on our arrival advised us of things to do such a pleasant lady as also was the lady who kept the toilets etc clean. The surroundings perfect, ideal location right In between Leyburn and Bedale. 10mibs walk to an excellent pub The Queens Head in which the food was fantastic such an excellent choice on the menu. Whilst there we met some other like minded people with whom we got on with very well and all the children became friends and we will hopefully meet up again. Excellent fields to walk out 3 dogs. Just cannot fault it and really don't want to share this gem with anyone it's one of those sites you want to keep for yourself. Will DEFINITELY be staying here again but for longer xx

Peace and quiet

Wow what a gem of a CL Site we have found here. Such a lovely site set in North Yorkshire with an added bonus of nice clean toilets and showers. The information room was stacked with leaflets and maps of everything in the area. Nice area for walking the dogs. 10/10 for this little site we didn't want to leave but we will be returning. We met some lovely caravaners on site and our children made some new friends who we hope to bump into again somewhere around the country. The site is within easy access to Leyburn and Bedale which are both lovely towns. And just 5 minutes walk up the lane is the Queens Head Pub which served the best tasting food we have had in a long time, the cask ales are nice too and I can recommend a pint of The Gamekeeper ale it went down so well. We'll done to Mr & Mrs Smith hope to see you again in the near future.

Hidden Gem in the Dales

we stayed here for the 1940's weekend in Leyburn, WHAT A GEM!!!. Lovely warm welcome from Mrs Smith, beautiful site the views....WOW we could see clear over to Teesside (smog permitting) Nothing was too much trouble for Mrs Smith, she even found us a good taxi firm to get in & out of Leyburn for the 1940's weekend. We will definitely stay here again and even sample the Queens head's infamous food, as there was a wedding on when we tried for food. Can't wait to come back :-)

Gorgeous!

We have just come home after ten nights at this gorgeous site. Can't fault any of the other reviews, the facilities are very good, the views fabulous, and it is ideally situated for the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire in general. will definitely be going back!

Wonderful Site

This is a truly wonderful site. The site is maintained to a high standard and the views are stunning. Having walked quite a lot in the area and stayed in the dale numerous times this was my first visit to Finghall and the panorama took me by surprise. The owner Sue Smith could not have been friendlier and made us fell very welcome. Sunday lunch in he Queens Head was probably one of the best we have had, again the welcome was warm and friendly. Just a warning, if you want to use public transport the bus has been downgraded from hourly to two hourly and only on a Tues. Thurs and Saturday. We ARE returning (5 days after leaving)

A real gem!

What a fabulous site! Have to agree with all reviews.  A nice warm welcome, fabulous views of the countryside.  A real bonus for my husband was the railway being so close, took advantage and had a trip to Leyburn.  We were in our motorhome, so it was just a 10 min walk to the railway station.  We also ate at the queens head pub, highly recommend this pub, food was excellent and so was the ambience.  The site it self is really well kept and the facilities were spot on.  Need to keep this site a secret!!!  Will definately be back.

We will return

Just got back from a weeks stay at Spruce Gill, a lovely warm welcome from Mrs Smith after an easy journey up the A1. This site is a gem & would recommend to anyone that is planning a stay in this area. Nice walks in the area with the added attraction of the Wensleydale Railway that runs nearby. We tried the Queens Head pub in the village, good food & friendly atmosphere.
