Peace and quiet in the Dales - January 2013

Great location for the Yorkshire Dales; close enough to start a walk up Ingleborough from your van. Just a 10 minute walk into Ingleton and a pub at the end of the Lane is about a 5 minute walk from the CL. Terrific views from the CL and a nice quiet spot. Pitches are hard standing and pretty level – just minor adjustments needed front to back and side to side on the pitch we were on. Fresh water is very handily placed in the farm yard (the water pressure is tremendous!) as is the chemical toilet emptying point. Beware though - grey water is emptied down the chemical toilet emptying point and this necessitates lifting your Wastemaster the height of about 18 inches. The toilet block is adequate but not sparkling. Plenty of hot water for washing up and the electric shower is perfectly good. A couple of points to bear in mind though: there is barely any heat in the toilet block so it was pretty cold when we were there in January and the light timer in the gents half of the toilet block is set to go off pretty quickly. I defy anyone to have a shower and be dried and dressed before the light goes out! Apparently the ladies' light is set more generously. There's an 'honesty box' for the showers and 50p per shower is requested - I was quite happy to pay this even though I don't believe it is mentioned either on the CC website or Stackstead Farm's own website. The gym and swimming pool on site were very popular with the locals. There was a steady stream of clients using this facility. We didn't use it and actually thought that £5 per person per hour was a little on the steep side - but that's just our opinion, you may feel differently. Would we return? Maybe, but only in the warmer months. This CL is only about an hour from our home and we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are plenty of CLs to choose from so the chances are we will try others before returning here. I would give this place a go if I were you and if you are going to use your on-board facilities, or stay when it’s warm, you will have absolutely nothing to worry about - apart from emptying your grey water. We found TV reception to be OK with our on-board aerial with just the occasional slight drop in signal.
