August on the Gower - Stembridge Farm

AWe stayed 15 nights on this well kept CL which is conveniently located for visiting all parts of the Gower. Unlike many of the sites on the Gower there is good access from the M4 via the B4295 but vehicles higher than 3.3 meters should not follow the site directions so as to avoid a low railway bridge. Instead of taking the A484 continue on the A483 and take the A4216 to the B4295. This avoids the low railway bridge. The site GPS position is also slightly out, the correct co-ordinates are 51.60523°N, 4.20833°W. A little care is needed at a couple of narrow sections once past the Esso garage in Llanrhidian and larger outfits should take care on entering and leaving the site. The turn into and out of the site can be a little tight. As stated by other visitors, the adjacent road can be noisy in the day time, probably less so off peak, but it is a quiet site at night. Contrary to the site description the closest pub, the Greyhound, is closed. We had an excellent Sunday lunch in the King Arthur Hotel at Reynoldston and the family pub, the Rake and Riddle at Penclawdd serves good simple food. We also visited the Britannia Inn with its fine views from the garden patio and the Purple Badger but ate in neither of these. The Gower has many fine beaches, many of which are dog friendly. We particularly liked Caswell, Langland and Oxwich for ease of access to the beach and facilities. Walkers have a great many opportunities for exercise of a wide variety. I particularly enjoyed a morning's circular walk alongside the cliff tops from the NT car park at Southgate to Threecliffs Bay returning via the path alongside the golf course and of course a walk at Rhossili is a must. On a rainy day we made a trip into Swansea, visiting the free Waterfront Museum and the large indoor market. The acid test is would we use this site again, the answer is an emphatic yes.
