Ease of arrival/welcome

Stourhead is wonderful, but sadly the campsite is not.

Having camped at a wide variety of sites over the past 2 years (Club Sites, touring parks, and CL's/CS's), the pricing for this NT 5-pitch site is ridiculously inflated. The nightly rate for 2-people is more than I would expect to (and have) paid for a fully serviced site with toilet/showers, camping shop, views etc etc. The site description does say there is a toilet, but this is quite a walk (by the NT shop/visitor area), so effectively be prepared to be 100% self-sufficient. Also on arrival at the site there is a blackboard stating that no BBQ's are allowed, this we did not see mentioned when booking, and would be useful information for many campers. What would be better for these NT campsites is if they gave NT members a reduced rate for the camping, IMO £20/night (for 2-people) would be more than fair. On the plus side, having Stourhead on the doorstep, the Spread Eagle pub, and plenty of walks is a positive - however I probably would not return to this site again unless the rates were reduced.
