Ease of arrival/welcome

A gem of a find and lived up to all our expectations.

We’ve just returned from a two weeks stay at Tax Farm Cl, Matlock, Derbyshire. Tax Farm is a two tier, all gravel, five pitch site. All the pitches are fully serviced, including a grey water drain. There are no toilets or showers on site, so you do need to be self sufficient. The views from the site are wonderful and I’m sure even better in the summer. The road down from the main road, is quite bumpy and steep, but the owner will tow you back up to the main road if you ask. Dogs are allowed, but do need to be kept on a lead and they ask they you do not encourage their dogs to visit. We had very mixed weather, but as always we found plenty of things to do. We are members of English Heritage, The National Trust and Historic Houses. Tax Farm is ideally placed to visit Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall, which are all worth a visit. We visited Sutton Scarsdale Hall which is ruin, Eyam village and it’s small, but informative museum, Eyam Hall, Haddon Hall, The National Tramways Museum, Cromford Mills and canal, Renishaw Hall, family home of the Sitwells(no photos allowed inside), Welbeck Abbey and Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. There are a couple of local Indian Restaurants that will deliver to the site. We opted to dine in at The Shalimar. The food and service was excellent, but we thought that it was expensive. All in all an excellent stay and we are hoping to go back next year in the summer and get some walking in. Great communication from the owners too.
