Ease of arrival/welcome

Very accommodating owner

We originally contacted Lucy by text (if ringing the landline have a pen at hand for the mobile number). We ideally wanted a pitch for nights of 18th and 19th September, as we wanted to be in situ for the Queen's funeral. A reply text came through. No availability for the Sunday but she could accommodate us on the Monday and Tuesday nights. Following my reply Lucy rang me and said that if we wished to come early on the Monday morning we could pitch up if the pitch was free - if not free we were more than welcome to park in the "steadings" (farm yard) as long as we weren't requiring ehu. She also took my email address so she could email me the confirmation and means of payment. I checked on the morning of our arrival if it was still ok for us to arrive at 1030 as we were only travelling from Hawick. It was. When we arrived the occupants of our allocated pitch were still in situ so we parked up behind one of the farm buildings. The only time we saw Lucy was a distant figure giving us the thumbs up that we were parked in the correct place. By mid afternoon the pitch was free and at a convenient time to us we moved on to our pitch. It wasn't until we were set up that we realised we had driven straight past the water point situated on the LHS just past the entrance. Driving on the grass is discouraged so motorhome owners are advised to have a long enough hose (which we have). Fortunately we had enough water and could top up if necessary with our watering can. The grey/black waste area is in the opposite corner of the site - opposite pitch # 5. Fortunately on our departure we were able to reverse up to the waste disposal corner, attach our waste hose to our disposal pipe on the motorhome, and discharge our grey waste that way. The confirmation email we received also included a WiFi code. When we were parked up behind the farm buildings the code was useless - so as we were watching the funeral on iPlayer (we don't have a tv in the motorhome) - we relied on our mobile data for access to the internet. Once we were on the pitch the WiFi was still pretty "hit and miss", so I think we ended up watching the rest of the funeral using my husband's phone data. We never got a "welcome" as such from the owners (other than the thumbs up). All the information regarding the site was on a notice board. We did get a follow up email when we left thanking us for our stay etc. Jedburgh itself is a 20 minute e-cycle up the A68 (not as busy as it could have been) - but we still opted to find ourselves an alternative route back (which we did) albeit that a couple of hundred meters of it was on a bridleway! Jedburgh is definitely worth visiting. The Abbey is half price at the moment (as are the Abbeys at Melrose, Kelso and Dryburgh) due to the risk of falling masonry. The Castle (jail) and Mary Queen of Scots house are also both worth visiting - admission to both is free or by voluntary donation. Parking in the town is free for all types of vehicles.
