a shocking access

Probably the worst access to any CL you will come across! A completely unmade up and potholed track approx quarter mile in length showering all with white dust - one member on site had to take his 'van jockey wheel off as the ruts were so bad. No TV or any mobile reception. Adjoins a very large camping field. How often does the CC monitor CLs?

Overcrowding a huge issue.

As per the review by Andy Long, we also found that far too many outfits were being packed in. We booked only last Wednesday for arrival the following day and were told over the phone "you will be the 4th booked in for the weekend". However, there were 7, 8, 11, 12 & 10 units respectively during our 5 night stay. This meant that some units had no choice but to park under trees at the edge of the site in total shade for the whole of the day. Additionally, some owners seemed to have problems with their electricity supply being reduced on occasions. The owner is obviously wholly motivated by financial gain rather than any wish to abide by Caravan Club certification rules and seems to be using the CC handbook as advertising for a site he would clearly prefer to operate on a commercial basis. When I offered to show our membership card to the lady who collected the site fees, her response was "No, don't worry. We don't bother about things like that." One wonders, then, how many units were not even Caravan Club members! Such a shame as the site is attractively located near to some lovely walks but our stay was totally spoiled by this blatant flouting of the rules!

Very disappointing

On booking we found the man on the phone very abrupt as he was ' just going out' On arrival we found 8 caravans, 1 camper & a tent on the CL, we struggled to find a place where our hook up would reach due to the volume of units but made the best of the situation. There was no signage for waste & rubbish disposal. A lady came & collected 3 nights money & left without asking for our membership card or if we needed any help with where things were. On Friday another camper arrived & Saturday 1 caravan left & another 2 campers arrived !! By Sunday there was 5 campers, 6 caravans & a tent, hence bins overflowing, & shower drain blocked & running into bin area. Owners could not be found & no mobile signal to contact them. There is a large camping field next to the CL which was very busy & noisy. Hence our one & only stay here !

two nights, wish it was seven!!

We stayed for the last 2 nights of the may bank holiday. The site was found easily and we were met by a very friendly chap who after checking our membership card and asking if we wanted to settle up then pointed out the general facilities to us and explained where we could go dog walking.......which was basically anywhere we wanted to!!! Miles and Miles of fabulous walks direct from the site! We were in a pretty, lawned area of about an acre and a half well screened from the camping field next to us. The showers we used were next to the tennis courts and were absolutely fine!! Certainly not a decaying shack and for a CL much more than we expected! We had a brilliant time here and will most def be using this CL in the future, many times. The only slight problem we had was nothing to do with the CL but leaving and driving back through the village which is a little tourist attraction in itself the roads were very narrow.......... not a problem generally except for the idiots who continue to drive straight at you knowing full well there is no room to pass and then sit there expecting you to back up with a caravan and trailer because they dont know how to reverse. In the space of half a mile this happened 5 times!! But No reflection on the CL, or its owners........again can highly recommend this site........perfect!!!!!

Great for walking

This is a fantastic location if you enjoy walking. Without even getting into your car you have access to many fantastic walks and beautiful scenery. The site itself is basic, as you would expect, and offers great value for money. Alfriston is a short walk away and, inlike the last reviewer, we thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roast in The George! Will certainly go back to this site.

Well maintained CL in attractive setting with electrical hook ups

Well maintained CL in lawned setting dotted with trees. Electrical hook ups a bonus. There is a camping field adjacent and a shower block which is really no more than a decaying shack, but showers are high pressured with lashings of hot water if you can close your eyes to the state of the place. No mobile phone coverage. Excellent site for horseriding and only a short walk to the pretty town of Alfriston. We dined at The George pub in Alfriston and wished we hadn't: dreadful.

Tucked in the Downs

Lovely CL. Tucked in the Downs near many walks. Eg. Adjacent to the South Downs Way. Cuckmere River and Haven etc. May need levelling blocks. Some mobile phone systems poor. Freeview poor but half decent satellite...trees! One of our favourite sites hidden but only a 5 minute stroll to village with shops, pubs, restuarants in picturebook setting.
