Ease of arrival/welcome

Nice location but no facilities and poor attitude of owner

Disappointed with our stay. To begin with, it was supposed to me our family and our friends, two caravans in total. The site told me that it was first come, first serve with hard standing (fair enough) however with only one remaining when we arrived, the ground elsewhere was sodden, absolutely no chance a caravan could have stayed there for the weekend. We had to tell our friends who were en route not to come. Terrible weather is not anyone's fault, however they needed to let us know before arrival that the grass was not suitable. After an hour, there was a power cut on the majority of pitches. It lasted only an hour or so however no one could get in touch with them from the phone number provided. No texts were replied to, nor phone calls returned. The location is nice, close to Great Haywood and the canal shop/cafe. Nice walks around the area. No toilets on site however. I've stayed in many £15 per night places that have. Due to the boggy conditions of the surrounding grass, we parked at the entrance of the site, which had plenty of space. Upon leaving the site, my wife who was fetching the car was approached by an extremely abrupt woman who had blocked our car in with her Range Rover. She decided to confront her, explaining this was "her space" and that we shouldn't have parked there, despite my wife trying to explain that we were concerned about getting stuck in the mud. I am guessing she was the owner of the house/caravan site. Whilst it might have not been the right place to park, it was an extremely unnecessary and impolite end to our stay there especially given the very poor state of the surrounding grass around our pitch. We hadn't blocked anyone in and we had certainly not done anything deliberately wrong. If she was the owner, she apparently didn't have the sense to visit the very few caravans to ask us to move our car while we were there. We did see an older gentleman earlier who we paid and who was nice and polite, but not her I'm afraid. In short, lovely location but no on site facilities and impolite owner. Many other sites around for £15 which offer far more with a much friendlier feeling.

That doesn’t sound a good experience and not what I’d expect looking at the picture of the site.

To be fair, you knew there were no facilities when you booked so that shouldn't have been a surprise.

Yes, it was a bit of a shame and unexpected. You're right, it doesn't state it has toilets but for a 'family friendly' place you'd be forgiven for assuming it has something in the way of on site facilities. As I mentioned, although £15 isn't expensive, I've stayed on cheaper sites that have toilets.

If a site description doesn’t state it has toilets/showers, then it doesn’t have them so there should be no misunderstanding. It’s not really related to pricing as CL fees vary by area and what other sites around them charge.

Better luck next time👍🏻

Again, similar to the first comment, I am not saying there was a misunderstanding. Sites around this location that I've stayed at have toilets. It could be a portaloo or a brick shower/toilet block. Something I said in the reply was that you'd be forgiven for expecting a basic facility like a toilet if you're used to spending £15 and having an on site toilet facilities.
