If you require a CL with great access to the Monsal Trail, you can’t get much better than this. The site has five hardstandings within the field although there are two more just prior to the entrance gate. All pitches within the field are wide & deep and have electric hook ups. The fresh water is at the bottom end of the site but there is a narrow roadway for motorhomes to get close to it. The CDP, waste water disposal and refuse bins are over the boundary wall through a gate. We stayed for a Monday to Friday trip at the end of April 2015 and were rewarded with fields full of ewe’s and gamboling lambs plus the rams having a well earned rest in the field overlooking the site. Walkers access to the Monsal Trail and Pennine Bridleway is from the car park directly opposite the site entrance [on the A6]. A ten minute downhill walk brings you to the trail and the Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire shop which also sells refreshments. If biking, then it is best to use the A6 towards Buxton for about half a mile and enter the area from the Wye Dale Car Park entrance. As others have commented, all the previously closed railway tunnels are now open and it is possible to cycle the 8.5 miles to Bakewell with stopping off points at Millers Dale, Monsal Head & Hassop. For more ambitious walkers it is possible to follow the river downstream from the cycle shop – just cross the footbridge and turn right, keeping the river generally on your right. Due to the meandering nature of the river, the distance is probably twice that of using the trail! Also be aware that there are two sets of stepping stones before Millers Dale which were uncovered when we walked, but after heavy rains, may not be! At £10 per night, this type of site is just what we expect for a no-frill’s CL in a super location with stunning panoramic views of typical White Peak limestone countryside.
