3 NIGHTS

An excellent well priced CL with 5 widely spaced and generous hard standing pitches, each with their own fresh water, EHU, grey water disposal, brick bbq and picnic bench. The site has a central track, motorhome service point and good recycling, black water disposal, TV and Wi-Fi. It is surrounded by attractive trees, bushes and fields and includes a private wood to walk around with a dell and stream used by a local beaver colony. A useful trifold leaflet on the site is given on arrival. Peace and ambience make this a great place to chill out for a few days. However, for those like us who don’t drive off-site, the opportunity to explore is limited. There are no bus services and all longer walks involve roads e.g. to the nearest pubs at St Giles on the Heath (1.6 miles) and Ashwater (3.6 miles), which were both closed when we wanted to visit. Two short local footpaths to Virginstow were good but we found the longer footpath from Virginstow to Bradaford and a bridleway that cuts across the top of the Roadford Reservoir to be impassable to all but the most determined. Turning right out of the site, the road to the Roadford Reservoir visitor centre & café (5.4 miles) was good to cycle (carpark £2.50). We used this route to the A30 when we left with our motorhome.
