Pleasant site in a lovely area

We were here for 3 nights. As soon as we booked we received loads of information from Nick to make sure we knew gate codes etc, so that was helpful. The site is at the back of a working farm in a very picturesque area. Apart from the 5 pitches on the CL, there are many more pitches dotted about as part of a commercial site. The pitches are quite large but sloping, even with our wedges in situ we were still nosing forward. From our pitch we had amazing views at the front over the gorgeous countryside and behind we could see the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank plus all the lovely alpacas. There is a farm walk which we did on our first day, this mown grass path follows the perimeter of the farm. There were signs to The Black Swan pub but we followed the path onwards to The Red Lion pub. The path brings you out at the back of the car park - took us about 40 minutes. This is a fabulous pub and Pete & Kerry are very welcoming, the food is lovely and well worth a visit. There is also a coffee shop located within the pub serving hot drinks and snacks in the morning. We returned the next day for Sunday lunch and it was amazing. On day one of our visit we realised there was another pub nearby called The Old Pub, so we decided to do the 30 minute walk to that, not realising that as we got around the bend there was the entrance to our site - so much quicker to get there via the road than the farm walk! We arrived at The Old Pub only to find it was closed for a refurb (until 17 January 24) - this used to The Black Swan; again quicker to get there via the road! The shower and toilet were adequate and there is a washer and tumble drier should you need them. We had read some stinging reviews regarding the introduction of meters for electricity and the impact it had upon other people's experience while on site. It has to be acknowledged that everyone is struggling with the cost of fuel these days and I suppose the impact it must have on businesses could be potentially catastrophic. When we arrived we fed our meter with £10, we checked it a few hours later and worked out electric was costing approx 50p per hour. That would tie in with a previous review that said over 3 days they fed the meter almost £36! Plus we felt we had to keep nipping out to check what credit we had so it didn't fail during the night. We had heating on and small fridge and TV (both which don't take much at all). It was a cold weekend with sharp frosts, however we felt that an extra £12 per night did make the cost quite expensive. We use CLs as they tend to be cheaper and felt the £37 per night was excessive. We agreed we'd much prefer a standard pitch fee without all the faff of feeding a meter, going to the machine to get even more £1 coins and constantly checking our credit. If you're paying a standard pitch fee it's your decision if you feel costs are excessive and you vote with your feet. We enjoyed our stay but doubt we'll return.
