A big slope but great walks

A short walk takes you into Gilsland, which isn’t up to much really, but the walking along the Hadrian’s wall paths is fabulous. Well signposted, historically interesting and just beautiful scenery. We didn’t see the owner at all, which doesn’t bother us, but I know some people like to be greeted. Our main problem is the hill. If you get in at the bottom then no problem (we got to move after the first night), but the rest of the field is too much of a slope, in my opinion, to hold pitches. We were forced to go sideways on across the hill and, even on the top level, our ramps were not enough. Had a feeling we were going to roll over in the night. That of course didn’t happen. Had we have parked at right angles to the fence in the traditional way, we would have been far too angled for the highest ramps to have been any use.
