New year stay

Just had a lovely couple of days at alderstead heath site over New year. The wardens were amazing and threw a nye drinks and nibbles for us all which was great fun, helped us with all the pipes we needed for our first experience on a serviced pitch (my eleven year old will never let me do non serviced again) and somehow managed to keep the washblock incredibly clean and tidy. Showers were amazing. Alderstead is literally a couple of miles off the m23 but surprisingly rural - I went for a long run and only saw cyclists, not a single car in forty minutes. You can just hear road noise if you listen for it, but it wasn't a problem for us.

Great quiet site

The wardens are very helpful and always polite despite the time of day. Had problems with the barrier, but no problem they helped me in. The facilities has recently been upgraded and it shows. Waste disposal is very conveniently located at various points on the site. Just a word of warning to all. Please read the directions carefully. The satnav will place you in an impossible position on a very narrow country lane. Not fun. The route suggested is unfortunately not well sign posted so will recommend you study it before you go, or have someone read it out for you. Traffic is heavy late afternoon and early morning so try to avoid those times.

Wonderful & Friendly Staff

Many thanks Tim, Dawn, Diana & Jeff for making our brief one night stay so enjoyable and relaxing ! Just what we've come to expect from the CMC - excellent staff running an excellent site owned by and excellent company. This is a great site for exploring the North Downs - close to London and an excellent location just of the M25 / M23. Keep up the good work team ! Nick & Debbie x

Great Site

We were at this site for 5 days, found the staff very helpful and professional, our only concern that the lower toilet block was shut even though the site was near full. This made it difficult as only one block was open for the complete site. This will not put us off returning but hope the Club might use a little common sense as this was the half term holidays.

Tranquility

We really enjoyed our 5 days at the alderstead heath club site. We stayed here as it gave us easy access to visit family in Whyteleafe and epsom . The site provides a tranquil environment with ease of access to the M25 and M23. It was an ideal location and the facilities are excellent as we’ve come to expect from clubsites. Would definitely stay here again

Average site but, beware, you will be locked in (or out) between 11.00pm and 07.00am!

We visited last month and found the site OK - overall quite attractive, a refurbished toilet block, nice pitches - everything you would expect really. It was only when we tried to leave at 06.30 am, we found the high security barrier was in a locked position. It turns out, we had literally been locked in overnight. Had we been out the previous evening and returned after 11.00 pm we would have been locked out! I emailed HQ for an explanation and they simply said 'it's made clear in the handbook'. Yes, it does say (in small print near the bottom of the page) 'the barrier is in operation and it closes between 2300 and 0700'. But it doesn't say you will be locked in or out and your security key will not work. So, if you happen to need a doctor or an ambulance, a fire engine or a policeman, or maybe just want to visit a nearby attraction, you will have to make alternative arrangements. Anyway, HQ kindly passed my email to the site managers, as I wanted to find out why this draconian policy was in place, and I have not heard from them yet. I can't think of any other visitor facility where customers are locked in/out overnight and I wonder if the full safety implications have been considered. Perhaps the Site Managers will eventually respond to my email. I should say, I guess, reading some other reviews, it's probably been put in place to help control the group of Irish Travellers that live on the site but I will not pre-empt their reply. Maybe, if it is, the Club should review its membership policy rather than compromise the health and security of its ordinary members. I also found out after we left, we were not allowed to walk our small well-behaved dog around the site. Again this provision is probably aimed to stop the travellers running their various hounds around the site. Lastly I suggested the Club improves its road signage in and out of the site, including on nearby roads, but I may have wasted my time suggesting this!! Needless to say, we won't be returning unless the Club improves its policies on these issues.

Poor access and Travellers!!

The access to this site is not easy with some extremely narrow roads to navigate. Access to the M25 from the site is via Gatton Bottom which is very tight, especially if you meet a large oncoming vehicle! Club information about the site does not make this clear. The site is large and takes tents as well as vans which gives a different atmosphere from most Club sites. There was also a number of Irish travellers, with white vans with ladders on the roofs, clearly working from the site. They had large families with them and on evenings almost had an exclusive encampment. Not what is expected from a Club site. Perhaps the Club needs to review its policies in regard to commercial vehicles. We would not go back to Alderstead Heath even though we had a great day at Chartwell, which is close by.

5 Star Campsite

This is our second visit to Alderstead Heath and we had a brilliant time. This site is super clean, the pitches are a good size and you don’t feel like your on top of your neighbour. We were on pitch 70 this time which is a service pitch not far from the lower facility block. There is a brilliant wooded area next to the site if you have furries which they can run about in. For kids there is a play ground and on this visit lots of kids playing in their bikes. The location is great for visiting London, the coast, Kent and the theme parks in this area. We have already booked for our third visit. This is certainly a site I highly recommend

Lovely site

It was our first visit to this site and I was a little dubious due to past reviews but I needn't have worried. Lovely friendly staff, new very clean showers/toilets, spacious pitches, well looked after site, every morning staff checked the playground equipment and amenities. My only gripe was not being advised that you are not allowed to walk dogs around the site, I was asked by a member of staff to not walk my dogs on the grass in an area with a few trees not near a pitch, he then explained that dogs are only allowed to be walked on the road directly off the site and told me you can walk for miles once off the site, yes you can walk for miles and beautiful walks too but this is a big site and it can be a fair walk if you're at the furthest point and as dog owners will know first thing in the morning and last thing at night you don't want a long walk off site. This made me feel uncomfortable walking my dogs on site fullstop to be honest which is a shame as it would have been a perfect stay. I think the site needs to warn people of this when booking and add it to leaflets and website etc. If you haven't got dogs you'll love it and well worth a visit.

Dog walking

Although there are lovely dog walks off the site, sometimes it is nice to stroll around the site and and meet and chat to other caravanners. Unfortunately we were told that this was not allowed. We’ve been to this site several times and have never been told this before. It did somewhat spoil the rest of our stay as I felt uncomfortable just walking off the site with our dogs. We appreciate that not everyone are dog lovers but it seems that a minority of dog owners have spoilt it for others. When booking in it should be mentioned that it is not permitted to walk round the site with your dogs. The leaflet in the reception area concerning dogs is not clear on this issue.
