Could do better

This campsite has a lot going for it - its overall location and the spacious grounds which contain two well kept play areas for children. The pitches are flat, well maintained and of good size. Dog walking is adjacent to the site on the Heath. There is plenty of hot water in the shower block and the water pressure is excellent. The wardens were friendly. On the downside, as mentioned by others, some of the roads on the site are appalling with numerous potholes. Certainly not the standard maintained at other sites. There was only one toilet block open due, we were told, to not being in season. Unfortunately in the open one , the gents hairdryer was not working and had apparently been out of commission for some time ( no sign affixed). They were awaiting a new one. Perhaps resiting the one from the closed block would have assisted in the short term. Surprisingly when the toilet block was closed for cleaning I had to request that the baby and mothers room be unlocked so that my young granddaughter could go to the toilet. As others have mentioned two toilets in the Ladies block were closed off and sadly the shower drains and open drains outside the toilet cubicles were in need of a deep clean - not pleasant. It is apparent that this site is used as a long term base for people working in the locality, evidenced by numerous work vans on the site. In itself not a problem but during the day it was very much a ghost town. Issues such as clothing drying on washing lines tied on trees and the St. George's Flag flying on a pole outside a white van are not the sort of sights you expect to see. The final issue is that although newspapers can be ordered at reception , this is only 'in season' . Don't expect to get one in March. If you have a car you can pop out for one I suppose ( there is nowhere to walk to for one in the immediate vicinity) but not as easy in a Motorhome. Would we go back - not very likely.
