Well kept and very tidy

We stayed here for 4 nights from 6th Feb (Sat) with friends in two motor-homes.Very friendly welcome from wardens and we got the last two pitches next to each other 30 and 31. Papers can be ordered for delivery to the site on a daily basis.  The facilities were very clean and cleaning times suited us fine. Our pitch 31 is very close to the storage compound entry which was very busy over the time we stayed and became a tad annoying (its probably the only pitch that would even be aware of the comings and goings)  A short walk gets you into Ashwell which is pretty and has village shops but no large store/supermarket. The Rose and Crown is dog friendly and does good meals we had dinner there but they also do lunches.  Good walks from the site which made our first trip away with our new Border Collie pup much easier to handle as she became acquainted with MH life.  A lovely small site and would recommend....just avoid pitch 31 if coming and goings get on your nerves.

quiet site

Our second visit to this great little quiet site. As we have family in the area it's great to combine a break away with family visit. Staff are friendly and polite. Will be using again for certain.

A change from Cherry Hinton!

Having visited CH several times we thought we would try Ashridge although it is further away from Cambridge. Trumpington motorhome friendly Park and Ride is conveniently on the way! Excellent site with a lovely village within walking distance. Three pubs all very different, try them all and visit your favourite again! The Three Tuns won hands down foodwise but was a tad expensive.

Must try harder !

We've stayed at this site many times when visiting family in nearby Letchworth. Our last visit was spoiled by there being only one functioning shower in the gents' section of the toilet block. The warden said on Monday that the faulty second shower was to be replaced on Friday, but it still had not been fixed when we left the following Tuesday. This is really not good enough!

Return Visit after 12 years

The last time we were here it was in the summer but this was to be our first excursion away in January in our 35 year caravanning/motorhome career. For us the close proximity of a village makes it an ideal place to stop. It is quite an intimate site with only about 40 pitches so everything is at hand plus I have to say some thoughtful routing of paths to the toilet block and reception. The motorhome service point unfortunately still has heavy drain covers which I find difficult to lift. The village of Ashwell is about a 10 minute walk away and has some interesting places to explore. I noted that the Post Office seems to have closed but there are newer shops that have opened. There are several places to eat in the village including an Indian takeaway. We ate at the Rose and Crown and enjoyed our meal which size wise should satisfy the most demanding customer! There is a day time bus service from the village to Baldock which operates about five times a day in each direction. Access to the site is only recommended from the A505 but the last couple of miles requires care because of traffic calming measures and parked cars.

Helpful but frustrating

While staying at the site I managed to slice my finger. I visited the warden for infor to the nearest hospital. The warden was about to go for lunch but nothing was to much trouble for her and the sliced finger was soon repaired after a hospital visit. The only gripe is on leaving the site entrance is quite tight due to idiots parking too close to the exit. I was unable to complete the left turn and had to turn right against a no right turn sign. the village a quite narrow so I had to turn around further down the road before making my way back up the road to the main road.

FIRST LONG DISTANCE OUTING

For our first long distance outing we were not let down, lovely site with all that you would need for a weekend away, weather was not brilliant but did not take away from the genereal area, and all three public houses were good, will certainly visit again in the summer. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Ideal for dog walking.

Would come again in the Summer.

Stayed here for a week from boxing day. Don't bother with the Internet, but that is nothing unusual for whatever camp site you visit nowadays. The Staff are really friendly and we had no issues. The showers were clean and up to standard. There are only two in the gents and only two toilets as well. The ladies have three. The town is quite nearby with a short walk. Easy access for Letchworth and Baldock Be careful coming out onto the main Duel Carriageway A 505.We enjoyed the site very much and will come back in the summer.
