You can commute to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from here.

We wanted to visit the Edinburgh Fringe Festival but couldn't get into the Edinburgh site. So we came here instead and commuted daily to Edinburgh from the Halbeath Interchange.

A site of two halves

Well located just off the A92 entering the village of Markinch and on the edge of a large public park with a hotel and golf course within the park. Golf club house is handy for 'pub' meals cooked to a good standard and very welcoming. Good location within Fife for travels around to St Andrews, the coastal villages and Dunfermline. Station in Markinch also gives access to Edinburgh and is easily walkable from site. it is a site with two different characteristics though - the north-eastern part is badly overlooked by houses/flats and is at a much lower level to them so generally very unappealing. The other part of the site has some open glades or alternatively some areas within the trees. There are no facilities on-site for children's play but the adjoining park gives plenty of run-around' space. One pitch to avoid, having seen the problems caused to others trying to get into it and the adjoining spaces either side, is No.47. In my view it would be better to scrap this one completely and simply make it a turning area for the adjoining pitches. Would I go back? Yes, if I could be guaranteed of getting a spot away from the houses. As there would be no guarantee then, sadly, probably not.

First visit wish we could have stayed longer

Great welcome from the wardens who recommended a lovely pitch for us which proved to be ideal. Facilities were immaculate and only sorry we could only stay for one night as we were on our way home from a tour of Scotland. Will return again for a longer stay.

Perfect getaway

Second time on this site and will return again in the future. Very tidy, even with all the trees on site. Facilities were immaculate and wardens were very helpful when I had a problem with the canopy on my motorhome. Being next to the Balbirnie estate was an added bonus for walking the dog. It is also only a short walk to the village for any supplies that might be required. Would definitely recommend this site to friends.

Beware of tree sap

Just returned from our first visit to this site. Lovely site but oh what a mess our motorhome was in when we left. Roof and sides covered in birch sap, it has taken us 3hrs to clean it off our van. We will return but be much more careful in the pitch we select. Be aware.

Good Transport Links

We stayed here in late October fortunately we ignored the weather forecast and so glad we did, it did rain at night aand we were there when the hurricane swept up the country but it never bothered us, the pitches are in a wooded area which gave some protection, the site is on the edge of a lovely park where you can cycle or walk and I’m sure in the summer it will be perfect. The local town is Markinch which has has a newly built train station which serves the area well it also has regular bus services to various towns near and far, St Andrews is within a short distance with buses to Leven and then change to St Andrews or coast liner which was very nice The locals were all very friendly and definitely a place we will return, there are nice local bars and eating houses to visit Morrison’s supermarket and Lidi are within walking distance and so is Wetherspoons The facilities as always on club sites were spotless the warden managers were spot on friendly approachable people. We are on the 3 network and that was very good, like I say it’s a 5 minute walk into town and a 8 Minute walk to the train station

Balbirnie

Set on the edge of a large park in an urban area we used this site for an overnight stop. We arrived in very wet weather and due to grass pitches being taken out of action a hardstanding pitch had been reserved for us and other arrivals that day. Our pitch was level but under trees which dropped pines cones and beech mast onto the roof of our van, quite noisy! We turned our van to face inwards as the alternative view was local housing. Some parts of the site looked very gloomy due to the position which is in a sloping wooded outer corner of the park, don't expect views or much light. There were nice touches from the wardens who had brightened up the pitch edges with flower planters. If returning to the area we would head for the lovely nearby coastal villages rather than this site.

Not for us!

We came to this site as my grandad used to rave about how lovely it was, and as he passed earlier this year, we came as a tribute to him. The site is on the edge of a country park which had nice walks, but we wished it was in the middle of the park, rather than edged on the other side by a housing estate. But, that is our preference and others may be happy with that location. The site itself is almost in two haves, with one area set on gravel, pretty unattractive, more like a car park and the other area is under trees with a mix of grass and gravel pitches. It was busy so we had a grass pitch but had difficulty finding one that was not wet. The only one available was slopping and our levelling blocks were not enough to level the van. The pitch next to us was used by a large motorhome who became stuck on driving in and we had to push him out! I think this area should have been coned off. The unit opposite us was struck by a falling branch from the overhanging trees. The most annoying thing was the building work going on next to the site and some people moved away from that area due to the disturbance. The facilities were excellent and the wardens were great.

Last Scottish Stop

This was the last stop of our Scottish trip. It was easy to find and the access is good, A well kept site with good clean facilities. The pitches are in little cul de sacs, and on various levels, It's right by a park so a good place for dog walkers. The site backs on to a housing estate but there was no noise disturbance while we were there. Being under trees is a bit of a pain when it rains - constant dripping! The small town is a stroll away, it has a newsagent come general store and a couple of pubs but little else. We toured The East Neuk of Fife from there, St Andrews is well worth a visit as are the coastal towns and villages. The Wildlife - Deer Sanctuary was a bit disappointing! All in all a good base to 'do' the area from.
