Stop Complaining

A lovely site lovingly looked after by all the staff. You are assured of a friendly welcome. We arrived to find we were booked in already, the problem with having a surname of Smith, quickly sorted by the staff the other Smith was on the wrong site by some 30 miles!!! After reading reviews we wondered what awaited us with regards to the toilet / washing up facilities all worries vanished on arrival. Yes they are in need of refurbishment but more than up to the task. The staff do their best with cleanliness but it isn't helped by members washing dogs in the showers, leaving the toilets in disgusting states and the washup area being left without cleaning the sink after use, this was witnessed by us but the perpetrator disappeared before we could say anything. As a club site used by members only it makes us wonder how some treat their own home. So stop complaining as we are sure that even after refit these people will still abuse the facilities. We had a great time and enjoyed the walking, peace and quiet whilst meeting some very nice people.

Review

We had a very relaxing stay at Black Knowles from the 17th-25th July. The site is well located within the New Forest with plenty to do on a daily basis lots of attractions and places of interest. The assistant wardens Kevin & Jill were very helpful and friendly, as was the head wardens. The facilities were adequate and basic, but I understand that they are due a rebuild during the course this winter. They were kept clean as was the site on a regular daily basis. Overall  we had a lovely time and look forward to another visit when the new facilities are in place.

Recently stayed at this site.. Although a great location. The facilities are very poor, toilet and shower block is a disgrace dirty and smells. Although it's due an upgrade next year the price to stay should have been discounted. Warden well there are to many and apparent from emptying the bins I do wonder what they do all day! No facilities for kids so you have then playing ball games hitting your vans and wardens never around. People on cycles bombing around the site major accident waiting to happen. Rules are enforced for some but not others, two cars per pitch ! Not 6 feet gap between caravans. Very disappointing site. No wi fi... Avoid until the club takes action!

Comment from The Club:

Many thanks for writing a review. The Site Staff have been in touch as they work hard to ensure everyone is happy on site and want to address the concerns you have raised.

We would like to assure you that although the toilet block on site is dated, it is thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis and the Wardens work hard to ensure they are kept clean. For future reference if you are ever unsatisfied with the cleanliness of the toilet blocks please do speak to a warden on site as they are there to help and assist. Please be assured that they do regular evening walkabouts on site to check on site issues and security and as you can see from other reviews, many members are very happy with their stay at Black Knowl.

The Wardens do not recall any member complaining to them about any of the points raised and would really appreciate it if anyone ever has any concerns please do speak to them when on site so they can address any issues there and then.

The wardens are scrupulous on site to ensure they maintain the correct fire gap between outfits as health and safety is very important. Please note if there are two cars on a pitch it is because the members have paid for the second car in accordance with Club Policy.

If a Warden does see any member not complying with The Club rules, they do speak to the Member accordingly at the time.

We hope this helps address any concerns you have and thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Superb but tired site

Another very enjoyable holiday at Black Knowl (despite a 12 hour journey with car problems - thank goodness for May Day). Yes, the toilet block is still a concern for members and staff but they are well maintained despite their fragile age. Hopefully next year (with planning permission) the site will be the jewel it deserves to be - we can't wait. Beautiful scenery, the natural environment, quaint villages and charming people - this site has it all!

great site for everyone

Site is right in the forest, plenty of walks from the site. Ponies congregate under the trees by the gate.  Site itself is well laid out and pitches are well maintained. There is so much to do and see in the area. The only fly in the ointment is having to drive through Lindhurst when going to and leaving the site. The traffic queues there can add an extra hour to your journey. Special thanks to the lady wardens who kindly dog sat my little Jackie when I had to make an emergency trip to the dentist on the hottest day of the year.

New Forest Adventures

Location (once you've found it!) is excellent; but the warning sign just after last corner can be confusing. Could do with some better (more detailed) maps of the local pathways surrounding site - maybe co-ordinated to the Forestry Commission's own numbering system for post markers? Brockenhurst is quiet but has all that most of us would want. I like the individual shower / loo cubicles - very efficient - and although they are due to be 'updated' over the winter, hopefully they won't change to much.

Lovely peaceful site

A lovely peaceful site with good walking and cycling from the site. Walking distance to small town of Brockenhurst. Well managed by excellent, friendly wardens. This was our 3rd visit and we will certainly return.

Good location but facilities a little 'tired'

Stayed here for 12 nights and overall we had a good time mainly due to the location - great for cycling and walking, its only a couple of miles from Brockenhurst so and for Sainsburys etc.  Its nice that the site has newspapers delivered everyday, a small but well stocked shop a and a fish & chip van on Thursdays (altho these were a bit disappointing in quality) - the showers etc are clean and basic and the individual units are great however they do need a facelift.  Only a couple of downsides - the pitches are quite close together (especially hard standing) so you are always close to someone, we also felt in the minority as we don't have a dog - while I don't mind dogs its some of the owners that are the problem - not keeping dogs on lead or allowing them to continually bark !!!

Overall Disappointing

This campsite, surrounded by the New Forest, is situated outside the village of Brockenhurst. The campsite itself is of a slightly unusual but pleasant layout with a large number of grass pitches. The facilities are outdated, but I understand that they are to be replaced this winter in time for the 2017 season. The biggest disadvantage on this site were the number of caravan club members who, despite having access to hundreds of acres of forest immediately outside the gate, continually walked their dogs around the site – with the expected results – certainly not what I wish to see whilst having breakfast. The wardens seemed unable to address this problem. If you are not a dog lover, I would avoid a visit here.

5 Star minus 2 .....

2nd visit to this beautiful site, we just love it! Set in the heart of the New Forest with lovely walks & cycle paths. Also has good selection of pubs & restaurants in Brockenhurst. Sadly though it still awaits the desperately needed facilities up-grade - hence my 5 stars minus 2. The wardens are lovely & do a fantastic job of keeping things clean & there is talk of an up-grade before next year so fingers crossed. Also on the downside there is no wifi signal although did manage to get mobile 3G. Definately worth a visit.
