Old and run down

A long awaited 3 day break in the New Forest was slightly marred by this site. The wardens are lovely and very helpful but the facilities are very limited with no wifi and a very old run down toilet block that desperately needs updating. Although the wardens kept the site clean and well groomed this is not a good site for families with young children as there are no play facilities and ball games are banned. The approach road needs great care as its full of pot holes. Some of these are at least a metre in diameter. The speed bumps are very poorly marked so great care needs taking when approaching from Brockenhurst. Also make sure you follow the approved route and not your sat nav!

Horrible approach road

Just came back from Black Knoll. The approach road to the site is appalling, full of very deep pot holes and speed humps, take extreme caution. The toilets need updating but are clean. The site overall is nice and clean and very quiet. Great for walking around the forest. You would expect to have a better road for a caravan club site than this.

Good Site, but Not Without its Problems.

First time we have visited this site, we lived a few miles away many years ago. The approach to the site from the North is through traffic-choked Lyndhurst, worth avoiding if you can. The access to the site is appalling, The Club needs to approach those responsible for the road as it is full of dreadful potholes, and it is too easy to hit the speedhumps with your corner steadies when you find a pothole at the same time. The Club has applied for planning permission to refurbish and rebuild the rather tired facilities which is very necessary and until the work is complete, It is probably pointless to review these. The site is quiet and pleasant, in a good position in the Forest and Brockenhurst is close by with good facilities.

The staff were excellent.

Road to site Very Bad

We have been Members of the Caravan Club for many years and spend a lot of time each year in Hampshire This was our first visit to Black Knowl and we were disappointed The entrance road was very dangerous as there were many large potholes and  humps that were not easily seen with the shadows from the trees (suggest they were painted white) The toilets and showers need updating I opened five doors to try and find a hair dryer without success We will keep to the Caravan sites we know in future which includes a lovely CL in Silver Street

Annual visit

Been to Black Knowl on a number of times. Love the New Forest. Renovations are overdue & it will be good to see alterations next year. Perfect place for walking/cycling no need to take car. Many places of interest/beauty to visit. Never get bored of visiting this area.

Spring break

We've been to Black Knowl about 7 times over the past 20 years, and still enjoy visiting this part of the country. There is plenty to do and see, depending on  how active you want to be. The redevelopment of the site over next winter of 2016/17 will be welcomed by many. So next year should be even better. Plenty of good eating places. We like the Hare & Hounds @ Sway. Good food & service at reasonable pricing. If you would prefer somewhere a bit more cheffy, for a special occasion, then the Lord Bute at Highcliffe is excellent.

Black Knowl - April 2016

Perfect location in the New Forest. Site very well maintained and staff very friendly and helpful. Brockenhurst is fairly close by and a comfortable walk (30/40 mins) from the site. Not too much for kids to do, however, plenty of bike rides. We had our grand children with us and they loved the wildlife/outdoors. I'm sure we'll return.

Forest Freedom

The location of this site is great for walking the dogs, though the dog walk area and wash down facilities that are going to be installed will be great. There is not a lot for kids to on site, but if they are here with their parents and want to ride their bikes on the forest tracks, one of which they can ride off road into Brockenhurst that's great, BUT I do agree that it can be annoying and dangerous for the children if they are set loose to ride around on their own. Lots to do and great pubs and coffee houses all round the area. Try the Turf Cutters at East Boldre, a great Forest pub that welcomes well behaved dogs.... and get an ice cream at Hatchett Pond on the way back to the site. Great Wardens, friendly and helpful. We were surprised that the site overhaul had not taken place yet, but look forward to visiting again next spring and seeing the new facilities in use.

Beware children on bikes!

Lovely site in wonderful location BUT best avoided during school holidays or BH weekends. The site road system is perfect for children to ride their bikes around with a 'great' hill as well. So, if you don't mind kids on bikes tearing past you screaming and shouting then OK. Sadly some members are happy to lie back with a glass whilst sending the kids off to annoy everyone else. This creates a danger for the less mobile for whom there is a real risk of being mown down. Kids don't understand "5mph". Would suggest that families arriving with children be given a leaflet reminding them of the club rules (including no ball games) as wardens cannot be expected to act as policemen and risk upsetting members with children. Our stay was significantly more enjoyable once all the kids left! BEWARE

Perfect location

We stayed for a week at Easter. The site is so well maintained with lovely staff. The site was very quiet as only hardstanding available at this time of year. Beautiful walks, bike rides and location. Could hear woodpeckers, owls, saw ponies etc. My children loved being in touch with nature. Look forward to returning.
