A few nights in August

Wonderful location within walking distance of good eating places and shops and of course the heathland. Site very peaceful and staff very friendly. Toilet/shower block kept clean but getting a bit tired and in need of a makeover. Barely enough facilities at peak times.

Second visit this year!

This is the second visit this year. The site is ideal for children as the campsite leads straight on to the common where ponies regularly visit. This is an ideal space for ball games and frisby! Wardens very helpful, facilities always clean. Loads of walks and cycle rides direct from the site! Planning to return again!!

Location beats everything!

This is a site in an amazing location. The New Forest is a fantastic place to camp and the location of this site is brilliant as though close to the open common and woodland it is segregated from the animals by a cattle grid. Having camped on other (Forest Holiday) sites in the New Forest where this is not the case, I would come back here, as have had ponies run through windbreaks, steal food etc.  and though picturesque it can be a little intimidating! As others have said the toilet block does need updating but we found it to be scrupulously clean (we stayed mid-August). The issue seems to be more a need for more toilets and washing up facilities, as there was often a queue. It certainly isn't a reason to avoid this site. I am incredulous that people have complained in reviews about the children riding bikes. They were playing and riding!  Those there when we were there were not noisy and seemed to me to be doing what I expect children should be doing when camping - enjoying the outdoors and making new friends. Complainants might wish to only travel in term time.  We didn't see much of the wardens or experience any officious behaviour. Only helpful and efficient service. There are lots of dogs on site (who again all seemed to be really well-behaved with very little barking) but I can see why the leads-on rule is strictly enforced. I am a dog lover and enjoyed their presence but not everyone is. The pitches are not huge or very private and I think those in the know who had visited before bought wind breaks but the location surely trumps all.

Lovely site

I was wary about coming after seeing such negative reviews about facilities but totally disagree with those now we've seen for ourselves. Old fashioned but otherwise spotless and everything works well - just how spoilt have we become?!  This is a magical setting, with beautiful open common right outside gates, all kinds of animals roaming and owls calling at night, and the wood with the river nearby.  Great to be able to cycle into the village from here.  My daughter and I can't wait to come back.

Fabulous site

A beautiful site in beautiful surroundings. Don't be put off by reviews of shower block. The site is ideal for cycling walking and exploring. If you haven't been go!  You will not be disappointed. Pubs/cafes in Brockenhurst are dog friendly with good beer and food. Lyndhurst is very nice but a traffic bottle neck - avoid peak times (ie Monday to Sunday 900 till 1900!!!). This was our first but certainly not last visit to the area and the site!  Take advantage of cheap ferry crossing to Isle of Wight. Pub in Bank worth s visit too.

The best of Hampshire

We are a Dutch couple with a motorhome. 15 Years ago we made our first visit to the New Forest and Black Knowl. In July 2015 it was the 5th time we stayed there. The most important reason we are coming back is the location. The site is tidy and well kept. As others already said, the toilet block was and still is old fashioned. No reason for us to stay away. We will return to this part of the world.

Brilliant location

Great location right in the forest with immediate access to cycle trails and walks. Only downside was the the shower block which desperately needs updating. Kept very clean but just very old and not the usual caravan club standard.

Stunning location

Stunning location, wardens were pleasant and helpful to us, however they were a bit authorititive to some friends. Children cycling round and round on road and in between vans was annoying but harmless. Lovely site, showers & toilets ok, clean but needs updating.

First time at Black Knowl

Having tried on previous occasions to book this site We finally managed this year but oh what a disappointment. Although we were met by a very friendly warden and the site is open and clean the toilet/showers are very much in need of an upgrade and do not meet Caravan Club standards. There were also a lot of children on bikes whizzing around, not only on the roadway but on the grass between vans. Sorry but we will not return.

Here again

The location and access to some of the most beautiful countryside and villages in England will always encourage us to return.  Our welcome was mcuh warmer than usual, the rather brusk directions of so many site wardens seemed to have been mellowed.  Rules are important but perhaps the club, in its training programmes, needs to reinforce the need for recognition that visitors are club members using their facilities and paying for them.  Wardens are staff first and foremost but happily most become friends and supporters of a mutually approved lifestyle.  Black Knowl does need a refurbishment of the toilet and shower facilities but then we all have our own facilites on board.  Thanks to all for another memorable stay.
