Lovely but Tired

spent  a week here in August. lovely site in a great location with friendly wardens. The toilet and shower  facilities , whilst clean , are really tired and required an urgent upgrade

Time to get your act together!

Came here earlier in the year and had a fabulous time. Now it has disappointed us. New wardens could do with some common sense. Far to jobs worth. Couldn't put my washing to do at 10.15 even though there was easy access to the machines. Told to come back at 11.30 but even then I couldn't get in because the toilet block was not finished even though they had been stood chatting for 20 minutes. By then both machines were in use? How did they get access when a wash only takes 30 mins max? Got fed up with kids riding their bikes everywhere even next to my pitch that wasn't a right of way! One poor chap had just arrived and went to fill up his van with water at the tap that he has always used. Way and behold up comes the wardens to inform him that he must use the tap around the corner although he wasn't causing any inconvenience to anybody. There has been nothing sorted about newspapers for this site. Really thought that something would of been done by now. For the future I will be looking for other sites in the new forest before I return to Black Knowl. The standard since the caravan club took this site over has deteriorated.

Black Knowl

A very nice site, friendly staff who worked hard trying to keep the puddles away, toilets & shower always clean, we will be back again next year.

Black Knowl love it or hate it

Just had the Bank Holiday staying at Black Knowl. Felt a bit apprehensive to start with reading the reviews and talking to my Sister in Law mainly about the Toilet shower block but I shouldn't not have. Although they are old but they are kept spotless, which other site offers 'En Suite' facilities-your own shower and loo totally to yourself! don't be put off. The weather does not help any Wardens this year and they all try their best and work hard to maintain the facilities. The approach road does have speed bumps-but the are well marked and there is no reason to ground out unless going to fast. The speed bumps have been put in I expect by New Forest council and there is the Forest site just before Black Knowl.I will go back if I can get in even though I only live very locally

Back to the New Forest

Not our first visit but the first with our motorhome. We were lucky that we found a hardstanding pitch as unfortunately the weather had been a bit wet. We were here to be taken out to lunch which was rather nice and I am happy to recommend the Mill at Gordleton which is not far from Lymington. Black Knowl has a lovely location and once out of the site gate you are free to roam the New Forest. The rather interesting toilet block is bit past its best but there is talk of an upgrade but no frim date as yet. Brockenhurst is about two miles away and there are number of shops and restaurants. I have used the Snakecatcher pub in the past and found that quite nice. The site does not have WiFi but I was surprised that I was able to use my phone as a WiFi point given the location of the site. Being a motorhomer I make my usual groan about having to lift heavy drain covers to empty waste water. Unfortunately the other Club scores much higher with their well designed motorhome service points!!!

A real holiday site

Some sites are good for stop-overs and short stays but Black Knowl is a true holiday site where you could stay for a week or two and not run out of places to visit and things to do. Our drive to the site was held-up may times (traffic) due to the time of year but one last hold-up was worth the wait - ponies standing in the approach road. What a sight. Within minutes we forgot our 35 minute wait getting through Lyndhurst. The shower/toilet block is adequate but needs updating. The wardens are some of the best and most helpful, especially when some pitches flooded due to the heavy rain for two days! Getting close to nature in the forest, going to Lymington, which just buzzes with visitors. You can get a ferry from here to IOW. Why not visit on a Saturday when the high street fills both sides with stalls selling food and crafts. Visit the house, gardens and museum at Beaulieu, expensive but you could spend a day there. Exbury gardens and steam railway is well worth a visit, but in good weather!Bournmouth and the Dorset coast is not far. All in all, you will enjoy whatever the weather and I bet you'll return.

Wonderful New Forest Site

My family and I arrived at Black Knowle to stay overnight having just returned from France via Portsmouth. We were warmly welcomed by the duty Warden who was very helpful and clearly explained the remaining pitch availability for us. We pitched up and prepared our evening meal. Later, we went down to the toilet blocks to shower and prepare for the evening ahead. The toilet blocks were clean and appeared to be fairly well maintained. We stayed in our caravan as nobody wanted to visit Brockenhurst on this occasion, our children were tired from an early morning start leaving France, and it was raining! We were very pleased with our experience at Black Knowle and will almost certainly stay here again as a touring stop over or perhaps a weekend away sometime in the future.

totally lovely

new to the caravan club, and our first visit to a caravan club site -  things couldn't have been better. its a lovely site, well laid out with good pitches and facilities in a lovely New Forest setting. walking distance of a town and pub and a fabulous mix of people on site made this a perfect start to our membership of the club.

A Great Site

This was our first visit to Black Knowl. It is in a good location with plenty of things to do around for everyone. The Wardens were always cheerful and very friendly. We had a problem with the water in our caravan and Jim was very helpful in supplying us with details of a few caravan repair men. Jim and his wife also suggested on our request a pub for us to eat for our wedding anniversary, and it was a smashing place with good food. The only downside was the toilet block which is to be refurbished in the winter. However they were kept very clean as was the rest of the site. To all those moaning about kids on bikes, get a life, it's the school holidays remember you were a child once. People moan about them being on computers all the time and not playing out, but when they do you complain again. I'm retired but it was good to see them playing and making new friends, that's what camp sites are for. Thanks to the Cheerful Wardens for looking after us.
