Some sites are good for stop-overs and short stays but Black Knowl is a true holiday site where you could stay for a week or two and not run out of places to visit and things to do.
Our drive to the site was held-up may times (traffic) due to the time of year but one last hold-up was worth the wait - ponies standing in the approach road. What a sight. Within minutes we forgot our 35 minute wait getting through Lyndhurst.
The shower/toilet block is adequate but needs updating. The wardens are some of the best
and most helpful, especially when some pitches flooded due to the heavy rain for two days!
Getting close to nature in the forest, going to Lymington, which just buzzes with visitors. You can get a ferry from here to IOW. Why not visit on a Saturday when the high street fills both sides with stalls selling food and crafts.
Visit the house, gardens and museum at Beaulieu, expensive but you could spend a day there. Exbury gardens and steam railway is well worth a visit, but in good weather!Bournmouth and the Dorset coast is not far.
All in all, you will enjoy whatever the weather and I bet you'll return.
