Excellent site and great location

We returned from Black Knowl on the 08th May. It was our 1st visit and we'd certainly return. Great location for exploring the New Forest and surrounding south coast, also very easy to find and accessible in a large MH. Walks/cycle routes on your doorstep and Brockenhurst Village is only 30/40 mins walk away. Handy to have a train station in Brockenhurst, so gave us lots of options if we didn't fancy driving our large MH around the narrow roads. On site the pitches were a good size, really well kept site and wardens were so helpful. Was a little concerned before we went about the shower facilities after reading the comments - but we had no complaints. Yes the facilities were dated, but they were clean, warm & the 2 of us had a shower a day in different cubicles and didn't experience a lack of water pressure & the water was hot on all occasions (maybe we just got lucky, but no complaints here)! Would highly recommend scones @ Rosie Lea's in Brockenhurst and if you want a treat, dinner at The Snakecatcher - wow!

Lovely site, please do something about the showers!

We stayed at the Black Knowl site over the May bank holiday weekend. The site is in a wonderful rural location in the heart of the New Forest with excellent walking and cycling on the doorstep. The Wardens are helpful and the site is well maintained and clean with lots of space between pitches. The real let down is the shower block which is awful, especially when you are paying what is a not inconsiderable amount per night. The showers were never hot and lacked any power, a dribble being perhaps a more accurate description. We have always looked forward to club site showers as they are usually decent and piping hot, just what you need after a day of walking in the rain, but these were a real let down and the cubicles are cold and dated. I have long hair and the flow was too weak to rinse all the soap out (and the water was only lukewarm at best). Location wise, Brockenhurst is about 15/20 minutes away if you are cycling and about a 40/50 minute walk. You will need to cycle on the main road into Brockenhurst and I wasn't that comfortable with our young daughter cycling this stretch as some of the car drivers were complete lunatics but this is no reflection on the site. There are no play facilities for children but with the heath on your doorstep, covered with ponies and wildlife, this should not a problem.

Black Knowl Black Mark

Just back from a lovely weekend, marred only by the actions of one warden. We were at Black Knowl with family and our grandchildren went into the office to ask for the Tourer Explorer sheets, whilst we waited outside,  We could hear the lady warden speaking very loudly and leaning over the counter towards them, so my daughter went in to rescue them.  As we walked away somewhat shocked at the attitude of Mrs Warden another member came up to us and commented on her rudeness.   It appears that this family friendly site is not participating in the Tourer Explorer scheme, as was made very clear to my grandchildren aged six and nine, so other members beware, your children could be next to encounter this unpleasant individual. That said, when they went back the following morning to be met by a different lady warden, she asked them about the activities they have already completed and stamped and signed their books for them, which helped to reassure them that not all wardens are unapproachable.   Caravan Club please take note, we are not the first members to comment on this wardens behaviour.  Hopefully this is an endangered species, we thought they had died out, but not so it would seem.

perfect for us

Just got home from our bank holiday weekend at black knowl . We love this site for its location. We also would like to thank the wardens for the great job they all do. Some reviewers have remarked about the older toilet block which it is but always kept clean and personally i love the large individual toilet and shower rooms would love to see more like them on other sites like having a proper on-suite room . thanks again for nice wkend we will be back again soon i hope.

10 days in New Forest

First issue - you must follow CC guidance to find site. Not Satnav. You might overshoot turn into access road; but look out when about to leave wooded area into Heath. If you miss as we did - there is FC car park down road were you can turn. Next issue - approach road must have been bombed and strafed by the Luftwaffe; before or after Forestry Commission put in 6 huge and pointless speed humps. Take care. Arrival at site well organised. We chose pitch on site edge. It was uneven requiring wheel ramp and blocks under steadies. Wardens excellent and very friendly. Others mention ablutions block being in need of upgrade. It is, and we were told it will happen "soon". In meantime they are kept clean, warm, and well supplied. Site has open sunny and airy aspect. Internal road is good - what a contrast to approach road. Pitches are not crowded.Good access to forest, walks, cycling. Essential shops close in Brockenhurst. Small Tesco, good bakery, etc. There is "Aladdin's Cave" hardware shop (opposite Honda garage) which stocks many bits you may need. Site service points well sited, and well kept. Plenty of wildlife here. I don't mean the pubs! Heard cuckoo's, woodpeckers, etc. Lots of birds so wonderful dawn choruses. We liked this site very much. One for the repeat visit list - even though it's 260 miles away.

Lovely location and very quiet

We were lucky to stay here for 12 days of beautiful spring weather. The site is ideal for visiting the New Forest and Brockenhurst. The site is very compact which means that when it is busy there is very little open space and nowhere for children to play and meet others. The manicures lawns and hardstandings take away any sense of adventure! The open forest is just outside the gate but on site I didn't have a sense of being in the forest as I do on other sites in the area. The wardens were helpful and efficient, and the facilities were always clean. Many people staying on the site had at least one dog.

Lovely site for bikes

This site is the best one I have been in for the bike rides. The rides through the woods are amazing. The only let down for this site is the the toilet block which needs updating. There is mould in the men's toilets and a hole in the roof. Otherwise a lovely site and the pubs in the area are excellent

LOVELY SITE

Just spent 4 nights at Black Knowl. Lovely site kept clean & tidy by the friendly wardens. All pitches open due to dry weather. Some facilities a bit tired but was advised will be upgraded sometime as club now own the site. One word of warning, the access road is in appalling condition with  some very deep potholes. Forestry Commision aware but not doing anything about it.

Facilities tired

This is a lovely site in a great location, particularly for dog walkers. Facilities need updating. There is a lovely walk from Beaulieu to Bucklers hard, but avoid the Master Builders in Bucklers hard for lunch unless you are prepared to be ripped off.

Another visit

We have been going to this site at least once a year for last 5 years & just returned again. Location fantastic for road free walks & cycling. Wardens do their best to keep dated wash blocks clean but they really are in need of revamp. Whilst I appreciate they all seem to work extremely hard & are on the go all day Assistant wardens remained very friendly & welcoming but wardens less so.  Site "rules" e.g. No arrivals before 12 & 5mph round the site seemed to be ignored by numerous guests & selectively picked up on by wardens. Some members should be reminded they are in place for good reason.  Overall another enjoyable break and will be back.
