A site by the lake

The approach to the site is a bit nail biting as is the turn into the entrance. It is best to park up and take a walk round as the pitches do vary in size and most of the pitches have overhanging trees but the overall effect is one of self contained pitches. It is a fabulous site for dogs, the dog walk goes straight into a safe wood which is also one of two walking routes to Keswick. A bus stops right outside the site and has many and varied drop off points or you can catch the ferry boat that crosses Derwentwater. In all a stunning lovely site with resident red squirrels, greater spotted woodpeckers, nuthatch and tree creepers. The site for us was made even better by the resident wardens who are two of the nicest people we have ever met . We will definitely return

Tranquil site

Borrowdale is a great site if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Keswick. The site is under tree cover which is a problem when it rains all night, but other than that it's great. The site has very tight turns into some of the pitches and getting out at night as we did took a huge amount of manoeuvring in the pitch dark to avoid trees scrapping the side of the van. Would go back

Stunning location and wonderful tranquility

This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. Such a warm welcome from all of the wardens who were so helpful and friendly. It really is a beautiful location with so many great walks from the site. Our border collie Skye had the time of his life, swimming in Derwent Water and exploring the woods. Great Walkers Bar down the road in Rosthwaite- honest prices, traditional food and great beer.

Love this site

H Just had our third visit to Borrowdale and had a very windy week but we love this site. Fantastic walks so you can park your car on arrival and not touch it again until the day of departure. Scenery is stunning and we saw a red squirrel! We'll definitely be back.

Lovely site shame about the entrance

Lovely site in an amazing area lots of lovely walks .The wardens are lovely, friendly and extremely helpful. The downside is the very narrow entrance and the narrow road to the site. You just have to hold your breath when leaving and entering this site and hope you don't meet the double decker but coming the other way.

An amazing visit!

Great site situated minutes walk from the Lake.  Plenty to do, ideal for dogs and nice restaurants close by. Peaceful location and the weather stayed nice during our stay.  Didn't see the red squirels but did hear the cuckoos and woodpeckers. The views are spectacular. Wardens were both very helpful and friendly. Make sure you dont follow the satnav and use the directions listed. Would highly recommend this site. Will definitely be returning.

Beautiful and handy, but watch your awnings!

In a beautiful wooded location, great for walking and handy for touring around the lake District. The wardens were wonderfully friendly and extremely helpful - faultless. Make sure you follow the direction in the handbook! The satnav route is nigh on impossible with a caravan. We stayed there just before Easter 2015. Unfortunately, we had 3 days of severe gales and even though the site appeared sheltered we had trouble holding our awning down. Even with storm straps we had to weigh the awning down with handily placed logs, boulders and 25 litre water containers . The awnings either side of us went, in the middle of the night, but because I was up holding the frame until 5 am, we were OK. The trouble lies in the bases. These were wonderfully level and well drained, of a slate aggregate type, but unfortunately they could not hold a peg, which could not reach adequately into the soil.
