Quiet & Peaceful and one of the nicest, most helpful wardens we've met.

We had stayed at this site previously when it was still known as Notgrove. Recently revisited the site in our newly acquired van as a sort of "shake down" outing. On arrival the we had a warm welcome from the wardens who explained there was no shower block/toilets on site (which we knew from a previous visit). We initially had some issues with the power on our van but the warden sorted us out quickly and then took the trouble at little later in the evening to check we had settled in ok and there were no more problems (these were down to user error). The site is a few miles out of Bourton on the Water and although there are some walks that can be done from the site it is wise to avoid walking along the main road as it is a fast, busy road. There is some very good walking from Bourton up to Upper and Lower Slaughter which are well worth visiting. Bourton itself is also well worth a visit but it is usually fairly crowded at most times in the village centre due to the number of tourists. Broadway, Stow on the Wold and Cheltenham are within reasonable driving distance but as mentioned by others, you do need transport. Nearest shops, pubs and restaurants are in Bourton. The site is clean and well maintained with a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches. The pitches are also reasonably sized. We had no problems with tv reception plugged into the ehu bollard.

Disappointing

Stayed here for one night as unable to increase our stay at Broadway as it was fully booked. We fail to understand how the site could be classified as Bourton on the Water as it is almost six miles into the countryside from Bourton on the Water. We have a motorhome and unless you are prepared to move the motorhome off the pitch and try to park it in the town, then this site is not ideal for you. It was certainly quiet but the road seemed to be used as a rat run and was not safe to walk along. The dog walk was unsuitable in our opinion and the worst we have come across. It was a steep, stony path that led to a ploughed field in each direction which we were not sure we should walk on and dogs could not be let off the lead. There are no facilities at this site. We would only stay here again if we were desperate.

Excellent base but prepared to use your car.

We have stayed at a number of sites in the Cotswolds, this site is really nice, very quiet but has no facilities, so be prepared to use your own!!! The wardens did mention this on our arrival, they also came to see us after we picked a pitch to ask if everything was ok, which we thought was a really nice touch. The site is around 5 miles from Bourton so be prepared to use your car, the road outside the site is a very busy fast road with no paths so it isn't safe or possible to walk along it! Upper & Lower Slaughter are well worth a visit and you can easily walk from one to the other across a number of pleasant fields. The dog walk is adjacent to the site, fenced off and also provides poo bags, again a nice touch! For a complete chilax this is the site for you, however if you like to be near shops, pubs and other amenities then this may not be the best site in the Cotswolds to choose, there is also nothing for children here so if your kids like a play area this again may not be the site to go for. We didn't have any issue with our TV, we were plugged into the booster on the bollard, we can't comment on the WIFI as we didn't use it.

More like a CL site

I was disappointed with this site. I can’t fault the wardens who were lovely, I just think there’s nothing to this site. It felt like a large cl site and consequently I felt it was very overpriced considering there’s no toilets or playground. I’ve paid less than £10 a night for better sites than this. I also think it’s in the middle of no where, it’s about 5 miles from Bourton on the water. Personally I would not return, my kids were v bored. Tv didn’t work even plugging aerial into bollard Arial. Not a site for families.

Quiet site in the countryside

We had a weekend here in the heatwave. Site is spotless, only spoke to the warden at check in, but was friendly. Hard standing pitches are rock hard, can hardly get rock pegs in, but that might be the weather. The site was pretty full when we were there and felt a bit regimented, ie rows of caravans. Hedges surround the site, but not much to break up the view of caravans. There is no toilet block and I think that keeps people in their vans more. Although it was full we saw very few people outside, not much chatting going on! I think some of the vans are seasonal, so they may have been empty. Dog walk goes around a part of the site on bark chippings between hedges, but you can turn off and walk on a bridle way. Not sure if you could let a dog off here as the crops were high and couldn’t see what it lead to. Generally this site is quiet, peaceful and not near anything. Better suited to couples who want to relax or explore the area by car. Not the best site for families.

A Peaceful Haven

By preference, we normally choose quiet CLs or relatively isolated wild camping spots but Bourton offers a well maintained, rural spot that seems to attract the more thoughtful. With no kids, we can't comment on the suitability for families but there seemed to be several vans and motorhomes with a range of ages. They all appeared quite happy on site and certainly did not affect the relaxed ambience. The link from the dog walk to the bridle path is clear and not too overgrown - a 20 minute exped to Notgrove Barrow took me past a field with wild hare and, in the distance, barking muntjac. Great to see a photographic history of the site in the Information point, showing it's railway heritage. We will be back.

Peace and Quiet!!

If your looking for a lovely, clean, quiet site then I would highly recommend this place. Stayed here for a short 2 night break with hubby, our 11year old son and his friend and we had a great time. The site is well maintained, very peaceful and very quiet. It’s a short drive into Bourton-on-the-Water and there’s plenty to do once in the village. The wardens were friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely go back there!

Great site for a quiet relaxing break

Have just returned from three nights at this site and what a great place to stay, a very warm welcome from the wardens who made sure we chose our pitch in our own time and offered to help both with setting up our awning and also finding info for me as I had an issue with the brakes on my caravan on the journey to the site. The site was really well maintained and the service areas were spotless, look forward to visiting this site again very soon and would recommend to those looking for a peaceful quiet site and don't require a toilet block or a play area

Peace on a railway line!

Set on an old railway line, far enough from the road to be quiet this is a traditional club site with no toilet block. As we do not like using communal facilities and hardly ever step inside a toilet block, this is music to our ears, because we don't have to pay double the price for facilities that we don't use. Helpful and friendly wardens and well kept site. In the old days it was in Notgrove but seems to have moved to Bourton on the Water although you will have to drive a few miles to the village, so might be a challenge for motorhomes without a car (parking). Easy to spot because they still have the old distinctive red and green caravan club sign (for now) rather than the dreadful new logo that is difficult to pick out on the road.

Great site

Very friendly site, beautifully maintained, peaceful and quiet and great to just chill out at. Weather was atrrociuos but can't blame anyone for that. Great facilities for motorhomes. There isn't a shower block - didn't bother us in the slightest but guess I have to knock a star off for that. The facilities that are there are spotlessly clean.
