Good for families

Very Disappointed

Having been members on and off for thirty years, we are almost always delighted with the standard of sites. We booked this site as it looked lovely in the book, is new to the network and in an area where we stay to visit family. We unfortunately didn't notice when booking that it is only 10 amp - mainly because we assumed from the price that it would be top notch, including the electrics - but that was our mistake, not the clubs! Upon arrival we were told that on that day all pitches were being allocated (although from reading other reviews, this seems to be ongoing). We have an elderly dog so were disappointed that our pitch (along with most on the lower part of the site) was very small and had no shade whatsoever in the form of hedging or trees which, of course, also meant that the pitches were extremely close together with little privacy, and the promised views were completely obliterated by trees lower down near the river. We asked if any other pitches were available, but there were apparently only two suitable for our 21' 2-berth caravan, and neither of these was any better. We decided to stay put and make the best of it. Most of the pitches are 'hard standing', although the surface is actually a two inch deep layer of shingle - hard to walk on in open shoes, not suitable for dogs and gets into everything! Although the book promises standard grass pitches (which we always prefer), we didn't see any apart from the abundant ones available for tents but which were all standing empty. The facilities are adequate, but we never actually managed to get a hot shower - lukewarm at best - and in the 'family' rooms, turning on the shower risks your arm and the floor being drenched! However, our biggest problem was the constant noise! Obviously we know that the site has to be kept tidy (and the wardens are very busy at this), but the constant drone of hedge cutters and grass cutters nearly drove us bonkers! It all culminated in a warden cutting the grass between our caravan and our neighbour and a stone flying out of the mower and hitting our (new) caravan like a missile! The resulting dent isn't that visible, thankfully, and many apologies were made, but it just rounded off a very disappointing few days. We understand that updating will be done to the site before next season, but surely the price should reflect the fact that the facilities really aren't up to CAMC standards yet? Really disappointed, and very glad to leave - the first time we've ever said that!

10 amp is perfectly adequate for most of the year.

The site is very new to the network ,it was privately owned,we stayed t there last year and the staff were pulling their hair out, with the problems that had been uncovered, since acquisition by the club, but we did not think it was overpriced for the area and it will be a great place to stay when it is refurbished and brought up to standard of most club owned sites, and we also did not have a problem with the 10amp supply

We stayed there in August 2006 (I know that exactly because we had to come home to pick up our, then new arrival, Harry!) I think it was still called Bingham Farm then. Wasn't particularly impressed and haven't been back since.

But like others above, at this time of year I can't see 10A being a significant enough problem to complain about on a review!

I’m on a site with 10amp now. What’s the problem with it?

Unlike some, we always use a low wattage kettle and don’t have loads of electric grills and the like. 10A is plenty for sensible use.

Sorry hear all the replies to the original posting are stating that 10amp is OK - might be what they want but not Caravan Club Standard which is 13amp, after all that is only one of your home sockets!  Just as well Amanda mentioned it as we are due to go there in September, now beginning to wonder if we should put it off until the refurbishment has been done.  I believe we are on a serviced pitch so wondering where on earth we will be put, really not looking forward to this trip and hope that the showers are hot by the time we get there.undecided

Actually, 16amp is the usual on club sites, BxG. Why do you think 10amp won’t meet your needs? 10amp lets us live comfortably using fridge, heating, hot water, microwave on occasion, low wattage kettle, charging various gizmos and so on. Many of them in use at the same time.

We coped with 6amp in Sept in chilly weather last year and only found the occasional need to supplement the heating with gas.

On 16amp supply I set heating on 2kw on 10 amp supply I set heating on 1kw and that has been fine keeping the caravan at 21C in a snowy start of April in Scotland. No other adjustment needed for me
