Good for families

Good base for touring

The site is surprisingly spacious and very well managed with immaculate modern facilities that afford a welcome bit of elbow room.  Situated adjacent to a small country park that is agreeably suffering from illiterate dog owners, a lot of litter and diminished funding, you have to remember that this site  remains very well placed for touring the area and the East Lancs. Steam Railway on one side provides some consolation.  The club’s “Great Days Out” voucher gives everyone 2 for 1 train tickets and the destinations of Rawtenstall (see Whitworth Park, Museum & Ski slope) and Ramsbottom (food & shopping) well worth a visit, whilst Summerseat is the nearest station with free parking and Freedom of the Line tickets, best value as they includes entry to the Bury Transport Museum.  The Club Site information kiosk is disappointingly short on information, so it is worth researching on-line beforehand.  The Lancashire Museums, with the exception of Bury, are eclectic and well presented. The Helmshore Textile Museum is close, fascinating and surrounded by mill shops and from a car park or pub in Holcombe, a scramble up to the views from Peel Tower and Pilgrims’ Cross worth the effort.  Slightly further away, The Queen St Mill and Towneley Hall http://www.burnley.gov.uk/residents/towneley-hall in Burnley are also well worth visiting.  Attractions in the area are all modestly priced, or free if you have an Art Fund pass.  Bury is busy with plenty of big shops and a very extensive market, but if all you want is a supermarket, Ramsbottom has an Aldi, Tescos and Morrisons without the traffic.
