A Beautiful Part of the Country

We’ve just returned from another fabulous 10 days at this lovely campsite. Unlike previous visits, it was very quiet, possibly due to the generally bad summer weather (we had nice days) and likely due to the cost-of-living crisis hitting family pockets more these days. Whatever, we felt very lucky having the pick of good pitches and no queues for showers etc. The staff are great, very happy, obliging and always ready to offer advice and assistance, if required. Yes, many of the pitches are showing signs of weeds, but the place does seem to have been a bit neglected over the past year and the staff are working, methodically, to improve each pitch as it is vacated – it’s going to be a long job, especially as the rain and wind, throughout the summer, has not allowed weedkilling sprays to be used effectively. Having read previous reviews, I was expecting to struggle, as usual, with poor/no WiFi. However, when I arrived the staff informed me that the site had the new, free BT system, which the Club are installing throughout the land. Having struggled and complained about, the previous Air Angel system, seemingly forever, I was overjoyed. However, my happiness was soon dashed as I realised that the very weak signal strength was, generally, very poor indeed and worse that the system it replaced. Why, in this day and age, the Club is so inept with modern technology as to roll out something this poor, even though it is free, is totally beyond my comprehension. However, by standing under the WiFi pole, two pitches away from ours, using the system in the middle of the night and relying on free WiFi in the lovely town of nearby Buxton, I was able to get work completed. Not something that I usually need to do on holiday, but unavoidable on this occasion. So, despite my moan above, do visit this lovely site, with spotless facilities, a good site shop, great wardens and in a spectacular surrounding area, but please, do take some hot, sunny weather with you!
