Great for Chatsworth Horse Trials

We came here for the trials as Chatsworth is always full and it’s really handy for them with about a 30 min drive.  Firstly, the shower block facilities were really well kept.  We parked in a pitch right next to them in fact otherwise it could have been a bit of a walk at night as this was the only one on site.  The pitches seemed odd in that you couldn’t drive round to find the best without reversing out of cul-de-sacs and I watched many drivers coming backwards and forwards past us several times looking for a pitch.  Some were apparently too short for a 4 berth caravan. Site wasn't the immaculate club standard we're used to i.e. grass clipped, edges trimmed etc but then, it is woodland - but I still prefer the former – TBH, it was the fastest part of the growing season (after 5 days away I filled up my own grass bin!).  Not really within walking distance to any pub but we went on a long trek (some of it on the road) to the Red Lion and food was best I've had in a long time – though it was pricey it was worth it (fish & chips about £12).  Reservoir is fantastic and especially good for bikes.  The site is very peaceful.  Anywhere in the Peak District makes a caravan holiday worthwhile due to the beautiful scenery, but there are a few sites to choose from - so would I go to this site again?  Well yes, I would look forward to a stay if I re-booked but I’d try and get into Chatsworth first due only to the closer location to pubs etc.
