Tired Castleton

Firstly we must say how welcoming and helpful the wardens are at Castleton. We use many CC sites but the wardens here are brilliant. Location is wonderful but site looking tired and considering how busy it is, really needs some improvement. Far too many blue pegs. Numerous small campers using white pegs leaving sparse choice for vans with awnings. However the negative is wifi. It's dreadful and a complete waste of money. After days of no service and much help from the wardens, we did eventually get some kind of connection but so unreliable. CC chat line was useless and head office not much better. If they know it's a problem and they obviously did - don't continue to charge expensive rates for an almost non-existent service. We live in the 21st century and CC need to get up to speed and stop passing the book by saying its a poor broadband service in the area, not true. Having been on numerous CC sites over the past few months the same problem is apparent throughout. Time to get your act together

good for walking

we enjoyed our stay at this site,The layout is not good the one way system can be confusing at times. The barrier swipe card was not very reliable at times, The sign on roadside is not visible enough too we and several other people had gone past it.But after that good moan the facilities were well looked after always nice and clean The wardens are doing a fair job.

Well positioned site

Just returned from a 3 night stay, site very clean (toilet block and service points do need updating) the wardens were very friendly and helpful, dog walk very small but given the amount of footpaths in the area that shouldn't be a problem, the site is about a 10 minute walk from Castleton in one direction and Hope in the other. Anyone going for the first time be aware as there is no signage until the site entrance is reached.

Lovely site

We have stayed at Castleton Caravan Club Site several times and have enjoyed our stay each time. The site is conveniently situated within a few minutes walk of Castleton and Hope. The site has generous pitches and very clean facilities. The wardens are always very friendly and welcoming and there is no doubt we will be back soon. Thank you

Great site for Castleton

Great site, friendly wardens, clean hot showers and within 10 mins walk to Castleton.  Only minus point is it's signage is quite well hidden amongst the trees so easy to drive past. Really liked the family room with table tennis & pool, drying room very useful as weather was a little wet while we were away.  Pitch hard standing, we arrived 7pmish on a Friday and had choice of two, seems very popular, we were fairly close to reception but very little noise.  Lovely bread and croissants in shop from bakery in Bakewell. Would definitely return as so peaceful in such a great location - lovely to walk and leave the car!!

Nice short break

Just had a nice few days at this lovely site.Easy to find, good choice of pitch.used 1st one we saw !! Bit of traffic noise but not intrusive.Used shower with adjustable rail and couldn't move it.Nice to have really hot water, see signs at most sites saying hot water but it usually isn't. Walked into village and used bus to Sheffield.Weather okay and sat outside to watch the world go by.People from van next door said TV reception awful,we didn't find that a problem.

Lovely Six Nights Stay

Just returned from a lovely stay at Castleton. Friendly wardens, who obviously take great pride in maintaining the site, which was spotless and extremely tidy. As mentioned in an earlier review you do get some road noise in the bottom pitches, think the motorcyclist use the road for a rat run! Dog walk is too small but just a few minutes walk left or right out of the campsite there are footpaths. Great situation for walk either direct from the site or within a few miles drive. Didn't eat out out there are plenty of pubs to choose from in Castleton a few minutes walk away. Wouldnt say it was an ideal site for young children. TV Reception was quite bad couldn't get BBC,and this seemed to be general with the vans near us , but had no problems with the wifi at all. There are two very minor issues I have and that is that there is only one hand dryer in the ladies toilets, which usually meant a wait to dry your hands, not really enough with all the loos. Also the water in the sinks is dangerously hot, scalding, there are warning signs, but it's too hot to wash hands. All in all a very nice site.

Our views

We were made particularly welcome by the friendly reception of Assistant Warden Angie Biggins and her husband. They were terrific. WiFi was very hit or miss, more miss than hit.

Walking base

We stop at this site every August and use it as a base to walk into the surrounding hills. It's located just outside Castleton and the nearest shops/facilities are a brisk 10 minute walk into the village. The village has numerous pubs which serve excellent food (5!). Hope village is located a similar distance away with similar facilities and Hope Show ( August bank holiday) is always worth a look. Facilities are typical CC style and standard, staff are friendly and helpful. You can get some road noise if located immediately on the left as you go in to the site and the road can be busy. You will also get lots of farm animal noise to but this adds to the charm of this site. All in all one of my favourite sites.
