Peaceful & friendly rural idyl.

We chose to come to Castleton for just one night to break up our journey home and to simply relax. The site is set in a glorious area of outstanding natural beauty and is within walking distance of a lovely village, with several pubs and eateries, just along the main road with a pavement all the way. Trish welcomed us upon arrival and showed us on the site planner, where we would best be suited to park up, due to having a larger Motorhome. Trish then suggested we take a tour around the site & choose the most suitable pitch for our personal needs. When she learned that we were not planning to actually do anything physical due to my husbands need to rest, Trish then offered to visit our MH with the site keys etc, once we had chosen where to site. This was above and beyond the service offered and very kind of her, especially as it was a very cold and wet January day. Trish was super friendly, informative and kind. A credit to your club and we would certainly recommend visiting Castleton again. The services were clean and within easy access of the site. The bins well labelled and our pitch was fairly level, though we did raise one front wheel to make it absolutely level. A WORD OF WARNING WHEN LEAVING FOR HOME - ESPECIALLY LARGER MOTORHOMES!! Our sat nav is for HGV's and set up with all our dimensions etc. Sadly, this did not prevent it routing us RIGHT from the site entrance & to a totally unsuitable road, heading up Winnats Pass between the peaks. The road was very steep and half way up, we realised that due to the heavy rain falling, the undulation of surface & the lack of grip on the road surface, it wasn't sufficient for our twin axle Motorhome to maintain its momentum. We were therefore forced to reverse all the way back down to the Speedwell Cavern and use their car park entrance. This was a tad hairy to say the least. I got drenched managing the traffic flow around our stranded vehicle as we eased it backwards slowly around the bends. The locals were really understanding and offered their support but we managed without incident luckily. It was unusually busy that day - apparently- approximately 100 vehicles were directed during the whole process but we were just glad to get back safely and head out the village towards the Lady Bower Reservoir and home along the Snake Pass. Castleton is truly inviting and we will definitely be back but we wont ever turn right out of the CC SIte in our MH again.
