Dogs?

Dog walk from site? IF your dog will cross its leg for a longish hike across Tarmac perhaps that's true but I won't be visiting this site again as it is not suitable for my dogs. The cool reception wasn't much better either especially when I mentioned the dogs. However it is peaceful with lovely view of the course. I should have google earthed it too as the Club sign was not visible from wher I approached. Noisy work going on close by in the racecourse buildings too.

Supremely convenient for visiting Cheltenham,

For a third consecutive year we stayed four nights, visiting for an annual International Tango Festival. The site: a great location with spectacular views across the racecourse onto the Cotswold hills. The upper level provides grass pitches 'with awning' that are relatively level, but if parking on the tarmac area infront of the racecourse, bring levelling blocks. The facilities: these are clean and serviceable (well done wardens), but clearly dated. It cannot be a club criticism, as the facilities are managed by the racecourse, but come with modest expectations. For us, this is the only mark-down in score. Access to town: so easy - simply make your way to the park-and-ride stop (5 mins) or if using concessions pass, to the racecourse roundabout bus stop for a 6 minute journey into town. But if sunny, try the walk, cutting through the park taking about 20 minutes. The town: Cheltenham is delightful, clean and friendly, with great shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also an excellent centre giving access to the great garden of Gloucestershire.

Pleasant visit to Cheltenham

Keep looking for the racecourse signs to find the site, we missed them & somehow found the site by seeing the grandstand in the distance. Preffered the grass and the views from pitch over the tacecourse were loveley. Staff friendly and helpful, facilities clean and tidy. Showers a bit of a walk but OK for us. Plenty of pubs & restaurants in Cheltenham and worth a visit for a day. Used P&R which is next to the site and buses ran till late at night. Only a 2 minute walk from site and buses every 10 minutes. Steam railway inside racecourse boundary and worth visiting if you enjoy steam trains. Would use site again if in the area.

The good and the bad

The site is up to Caravan Club standard as far as the staff being helpful and polite and the facilities being clean. Most of the "pitches" are a section of fairly steep sloping tarmac and many are poorly defined. Make sure you have a long lead and plenty levelling blocks as many piches need both. The site has great views across the racecourse and countryside but unless you love tarmac and concrete it has little ambience. The toilet facilities are in desparate need of work. I don't appreciate the next door shower water running across my shower floor to a single drain point. Yes, the urinal stall long enough for the entire racing fratenity but 3 showers for the whole site (male) is just silly. Only suitable for ovenight travelling through as it is close enough to the motorway.

Easter at Cheltenham

Arrived Friday lunch time, lovely wardens checked us in and we chose our pitch. All was well lovely site nice view over the race track and the hills beyond. Nice walk into town. We did have a neighbour who thought it was a good idea to drive his car over our electric cable each time he entered or left the site! This became so annoying that on the Saturday morning we decided to move pitch which was no problem as we chose the pitch vacated on the row in front of us. The rest of the weekend passed by well, we walked to the Steam Railway on Sunday morning and enjoyed a lovely day on the trains. Only negative about the site there isn't a pub close enough to walk to in the evening. We did enjoy our Easter break, another well kept site with lovely friendly wardens

Excellent site for short stay

Good site for overnight stop or short break. Pitches are mostly gravel or tarmac and sloping so will require levelling blocks, at Easter the grass sites which can take an awning were closed. Toilet and shower block a little outdated but very clean and tidy. Park and Ride adjacent to the site takes you into Cheltenham from where you can catch the Stagecoach bus. A day rider ticket cost us £5 and allowed unlimited journeys with the Cheltenham and Gloucester area for the day. Would not hesitate using the site again, not a holiday destination site but excellent for a short stay to visit the local area.

Sloping Tarmac!

Very handy site and an effort has clearly been made to upgrade old race course toilet blocks with reasonable success. However, for 'hard standing' read 'sloping tarmac' and expect to be unable to level your rig. For Young families this is not an ideal site due to surface, lack of non-Tarmac space and coded toilets, much better for older groups given the good location on the edge of town.
