BEWARE OF RISK OF DAMAGE TO YOUR OUTFIT

The access road is riddled with deep craters and potholes. During our visit on the last weekend of the 2019 season a speed bump had disintegrated and a piece was left upturned on the road with stud fixing bolts pointing upwards. Our motorhome tyres could have easily been punctured, not to mention the risk of damage to suspension components. There is a particular risk to cyclists and motorcyclists especially during hours of darkness. My complaints to the club hierarchy have just been shamefully batted away because the access road comes under the jurisdiction of the Cirencester College Campus. There is no way that this site should be reopened until that appalling road is fully repaired. Please be aware of the serious risks that are posed if you are planning to visit this site.

 Hello Tinwheeler,

Apparently,  Club officials have reported the complaints to the College in an effort to get the road repaired. The College seems to have little regard for the matter. I have advised the Club that damage to property and personal injury to users of that road could well occur and for that reason they should use their resources, i. e. their legal department should get motivated as there are legal standards for roads to be adhered to. I remain completely bewildered at how both parties can adopt an irresponsible culture of indifference such that unsuspecting Club members are merely left to cope with the consequences.

Regards,

Steve Jacques.

Hello JVB66,

I hope you are right about other groups complaining about this issue. If you read the comments of other members, regarding the Cirencester site, you would think that there is no problem at all and all is well. I cannot believe that they drive down that access road wearing a blindfold. We follow the vlogs of Bob and Jenny Earnshaw on YouTube as they provide an invaluable source of information about all things concerned with Motorhomes and the many Club sites they visit. Jenny did remark that 'this road is bad' during one of their visits to the Cirencester site but that is the only like-minded comment I have come across. Members need to submit formal, written complaints en masse in order to force the Club and the College to take the access road problem more seriously than they are currently. Meanwhile, it would help to make as many members as possible aware of the situation and the risks that we, ourselves, so very nearly succumbed to.

this is nothing new, I complained to all I could think of a few years ago.  The reply was that 3 groups are involved, The CMC, the college and the owners of the estate and no one will foot the bill. I have been back since as it's a great site , but we are very careful driving down the road and we take our time  much to the annoyance of  others.

Well, if you think the access road was bad then and damage likely, you should see it now.  The college have re-routed the single lane road leading to two sharp blind corners. There are passing places that are not big enough for anything other than the smallest caravan being towed by a small car.  To top that, they have lined the road with boulders.  Apparently all this was done without consulting the club.  Great.

I have just rang the site over all these comments as was worried about going mid July. They have assured me it is no worse than it was last year apart the college have changed there access road to were the portacabins were, this has always been a narrow road.

Do you not all drive slowly anyway going onto a camp site?

If it was this bad as you are saying the caravan and motorhome club would not allow you to enter.

I would like to know how you have been to the site either as we have all been in lockdown and no sites have been open.
