Exactly what you would expect

You can walk, cycle or drive from this site, and there are so many visitor attractions in the surrounding area that there is plenty to do whatever the day or weather.  The site itself is exactly what you would expect from the Caravan Club and quiet in term time, but be prepared to travel if you need a shop, or even a paper and the local pub isn’t actually sure whether it is open or not.   The information kiosk is well stocked, but it is worth researching the area and looking for, and printing, vouchers on-line before you go, including the club’s own great days out.  Portmeirion is slightly cheaper if you book on line (you get a code, so don’t even need a printer). The best freebie is the Llanberis Slate Museum  or the views from walks and cycle rides.  If you are taking your cycles, take little notice of the club’s “Pitch Up saddle Up” lakeside cycle ride to Llyn Trawsfynydd because it is out of date and incorrect – the route uses part of the national cycle route 87 not 8, there is no signpost to Bryntirion (it is a house name) and you CAN cycle all the way around the lake (about 12 miles), but the newer Western part is steep in parts.  If you have English Heritage membership, Cadw monuments like Criccieth and Harlech Castles are free.  Wi-Fi is good all over the site as long as you can see a transmitter pole, but slow in the evenings, and TV is best on the higher part of the site.  Mobile signals are weak.  There is a good Tesco, with fuel, in Portmadoc, but much more spacious parking a short distance away at Aldi on the road towards Criccieth, together with useful Millets and Gelert camping superstores.  Don’t assume that all A roads are suitable for large vehicles and be very wary of your sat-nav.
