First visit to North Wales

After a long journey, we were greeted by the friendliest wardens we have encountered - Mike and Nikki were smiling, chatty and helpful - it definitely got our holiday off to a great start!! Mike even ordered us some sunshine!!! The toilet block does need updating although the showers are hot and powerful. Whilst away, we visited many places including Caernafon, Portmerion, Swallow Falls, Conwy, Betws-y-Coed, Criccieth, Abersoch, Pwilheli and Harlech castle and beach We climbed Mount Snowdon via Llanberis path (parking between £8 and £10 per day), the railway is not currently running to the summit so if you plan to catch the train and walk the rest, that is a steep part of the walk and takes approx 1 hour to get to the top - we didn't actually get to the summit as there was a 45 minute wait for a photo!!! Coming down is definitely harder than going up!! We went on a steam train from Porthmadog - the Woodland Wanderer - not the most scenic ride though at the stop there is a tea room and you can walk to a lake The site office offer a map of a walk to a waterfall (about 10 minutes walk away) and a cycle around a lake (note this is not a cycle ride all around a lake, that part of the ride is minimal) We cycled the Maddach trail from Dolgellau to Barmouth (it's a round trip of 20 miles) though flat all the way Visited Bryn Arms - good pub food Advice - if you want to visit any of the major tourist atttractions, book online in advance. Parking is fairly cheap (£1.10 per hour) in most places Lots of see and do in the area - thanks Mike and Nikki for all your help and advice and always with a smile
