Good Location for London

We wanted a location that would enable us to spend several days in central London and this site suited us perfectly.  A pre-booked taxi to Welwyn Garden City station for £3.50 and then a day return to Kings Cross for £12 is a cost-effective way of doing London. The journey is easy and very time-efficient, 10 mins drive to the station and 30 mins on trains that depart twice an hour throughout the day.  We were able to go to an evening theatre show in Covent Garden and be back in our van by 11pm. After a tiring day in town, Commons Wood provides a peaceful contrast to the hustle of London.  We were not troubled by road, train or aircraft noise and found it to be a very quiet site.  It is one of the smaller Club sites we've used but had all the usual facilities we needed.  They were spotlessly clean, warm and well maintained. The site is easy to get to from the M25 or M1 and we would return without hesitation.

Not for us

We were due to be here for 19 days but left after 4 nights.  Positives - wardens doing a good job.  Negatives - location of storage pitches makes site look ugly, wifi terrible, pitches very small, noisy road traffic, also cars leaving site early in the morning possibly men (in particular) using the site to be nearer to work - not leisure use.  Gave the site a strange atmosphere.

Handy site

Quick and easy access from the A1M. 5 minutes drive to Hatfield station with good onward trains to London. Helpful and pleasant staff, facilities spotless, pitches spacious and in a pleasant oasis of woodland. Will be back again.

Always a pleasure

We have stayed here twice now and love it, the staff are friendly and always willing to help. This is a great place to stay to get into London, we went to see the christmas light this time and some museums and enjoyed our selves. I would recommend commons wood to anyone wanting to go to london. Thankyou to the staff great people.

Battle Weary

We have visited many Caravan Club sites recently and this is the first site that looks really tired and weary. The friendly wardens do a great job at keeping it and clean and functional, but it really comes below the high standards of a Club site that we have consistently experienced. Some of the pitches are very uneven, covered in moss and look shabby. The old static homes at the entrance to the site, which I presume are for the wardens, don't give a very good impression when you first arrive. The vast storage yard to the left of reception also adds to the "clutter" of the site. I know we didn't see the site at it's best but it really wouldn't take much attention to make this a lovely, charming site to visit. The location alone, so close for London, makes it a site well worth investing in a little TLC

Good for London and surrounds

Good location but access a little awkward especially leaving onto A1. Dog facilities are very good with acres of walks adjacent to site. The information available could be improved although the wardens were very helpful and cheerful! Toilet facilities are quite good but showers although spacious are a little weak. Overall a good site in a good position to access London and close to A1.

So good we didn't go home ....

Well, that's not strictly true.  We did go home, but liked the site so much and it is so convenient to home that we arrange to change our storage.  All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and arranged all the paperwork and did everything to transfer us over. Had lovely showers, plenty of hot water and somewhere to sit whilst drying.  Especially like the fact that there was a left and right handed hairdryer.  Conveniently located for everything you need and still secluded enough to get a good night's sleep.  Will be back definitely xx

Lovely quiet site

Very friendly and helpful Warden who managed well despite his colleague being in hospital and the flying squad yet to arrive. Did not use the toilet/shower block though other members were complaining. Some of the pitches accessed from the stone chipping road and this road itself had grass growing over and the road was difficult to make out as a result.
