Happy Dogs, Great Wardens

Tried this site for an extended February break. Dogs loved it, which meant it was great for us. Off-lead walks right down to the Coniston Water were fab and the young dog loved the clean water of the the lake (as did we when she was so clarty when she went in but clean when she came out!). Wardens Alan and Dee were great and helpful. Travelling chip shop is expensive at £6 per person - same price for Cumberland sausage and chips - can't comment on quality as they'd run out of what we wanted so we cooked in the van. We approached from the North (via Penrith, Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside) - the route is a bit challenging and not for the faint-hearted if you are towing a large van (ours is a 27 foot twin-axle) but is fine if you take your time, use the few wide bits of road to slow and let other vehicles get past so they can progress at their pace. We'd arrive this way again as it's so much shorter for us than the long detour to the southern route. Will be back!
