Perfect base for exploring Durham and the coast

Booked this site initially to explore Durham and visit the cathedral. The sound of the traffic did not bother us at all it was just a steady background hum and has to be expexted when staying close to a major road network. We found the wardens to be really hardworking (constantly) and kept the site in perfect order, the bathrooms in particular were always spotless!. Only comment I would make, this is a site surrounded by trees (helps to subdue road noise) but also blocks the sun off some pitches early afternoon, late season. I asked about this when we arrived and was just told all pitches are sunny, this is not the case and wish we had been informed the pitches at the top of the site keep sun longer! I don't like cold dark pitches! This is just my preference and a minor issue! However, everything else was spot on, we used the park and ride twice, such an efficient service and very close to the site. We loved Durham and made the most of our time there. Need a break from exploring the cathedral then try "Cafedral" a vintage styled tea shop down the cobbles, wonderful atmosphere and staff! As others have said we went to Sunderland and South Shields, what an amazing coast line and such a lot of history. This was a real bonus as again the site is close enough to the good network of roads to take you there.
