Good Site but too expensive

Having read mixed reviews of this site for years, we booked for a week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve The welcome was excellent, very polite and helpful - I know I’m growing older but the wardens aren’t half getting younger nowadays Nice pitch (71) and toilet block was fine, although dated compared to some sites, it was very clean and even though it was the old type showers there was plenty of hot water and good pressure too The dish washing area was outside which was a bit cold at this time of year One issue to note with the site is that the pathway to reception alongside the dog walk is dangerous as it’s mostly unlit (apart from a solar light that runs out of power after some time and one low level lamppost about halfway down) and there is a 2” drop off the side of the tarmac path onto the gravel where I slipped off one night and twisted my ankle but it wasn’t serious so I didn’t bother reporting it, but take care if you go down the path at night Took a trip into Edinburgh with Graham on his minibus and that was great and well worth the money, went in at 10.30 and returned at 4.30 which was enough for us after a walk down George St and St James shopping centre and Princes St and found some great places for having coffee, lunch and a few drinks - Graham was very knowledgeable about places to go etc The area around the site isn’t very salubrious with litter strewn in quite a few places and blocks of flats and a migrant hotel not far from the site to the left but we didn’t experience and problems and did plenty of walking around which was nice, the site still appears to have security issues as lock up sheds have been provided for bikes etc Phone signal was great on EE, Vodafone and O2 My only real complaint is the cost at £48 per night is ridiculous and other popular sites like Chatsworth are even more expensive at £51 per night - I fear that there will be a drop off in terms of people using these sites, we have been members for 38 years and for the first time have hesitated to make bookings due to the current site pitch costs
