Good for families

Be warned!

A word of warning if intending to visit this site! During the day the site is perfect for families. However, that can't be said during the hours of darkness. Woke up at 03:30 by a group of yobs in the country park directly behind our caravan. Thought nothing too much of it at the time but woke up later on to find my carrera fury bike had gone (locked to caravan wheel) with the lock on the floor which had been cut through. Reported it to wardens who confirmed that at least 6 others had also been stolen during the night and a large number of masked youths had been seen in and around the site. Decided not to stay another night due to safety concerns but wasn't allowed a nights refund as the warden didn't have the authority to do that. He advised me to contact the club on monday . Discretion should have been used under the circumstances?. The biggest fear for me though was that masked youths can happily roam the site stealing bikes at will. What would have happen had my wife disturbed them had she wanted to visit the toilet block at the time doesn't bear thinking about and the site has a responsibility for the welfare and safety of its visitors. That was sadly lacking last night though and I for one will never visit Ferry Meadows ever again as I value the safety of my family above all else. Think very seriously before visiting this site!

Comment from the Club:

Thank you for your review. This sort of incident is an unusual occurrence at this site and for this to have happened at all, the Club is very sorry.  The site team is working in conjunction with the local Police team and will be putting further security in place for the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend.

Thank you for all replies and i do appreciate, and accet, that others may have differing opinions on a subject.  My post was simply to warn others of an incident that happened to my family, and others, who stayed had Ferry Meadows last night.

As the saying goes "to be forewarned is to be forearmed" and I sincerely hope others are more fortunate than we were last night.

Without detracting from the severity of last nights thefts, if nothing else I guess at least I get a new bike out this unfortunate incident.

Did you get a crime number for the theft  for your insurance claim

Just  what would it take for the clubs faithful to accept that there are problems at a site? Possibly  theft  of thier own property rather than that of someone else.

The OP deserves  the thanks of other potential visitors for bringing this to their attention

What is your problem, David? In a thread where a fellow member is a victim of theft and clearly stressed by it, all you can do is be unpleasant to others. There again, I expect nothing different.

I’m always wary, Bazza, but it can happen to any one of us. Good luck and I hope you get sorted soon.

I know you quite rightly are stressed by this incident ,but I think you should still visit this site again,  as I am sure you would have if your stay had been "uneventful "

I thanked the OP for bringing this to everyone's (here) attention and was not in the least surprised that a very predicable group would seek to downplay it.

Not really, David, unless you’re a potential visitor. "The OP deserves  the thanks of other potential visitors for bringing this to their attention"

I don’t think anyone has downplayed the event. Most of us are just being realistic whilst also being sympathetic. Still, let’s not detract from the reviewer's plight but simply wish him and other victims well. I’m sure you’ll join me in that.

With your admitted minimum use of club site in recent years, ?have you been to Ferry Meadows?then your last posts show just how out of touch you are with reality, no one has if reading the posts has defended the club, but tried to bring a perspective into the situation, which I think as others was not an every day occurance which the review "in the heat of the moment" did not showundecided

Years ago Clumber park was regularly targeted by bike thieves, my son when alot younger went for the weekend with his mate and his family, had their bikes stolen!

It's an unfortunate sign of the times.

A one off incident no site owned by anyone can prevent this, however if it's a regular occurrence then signs in reception or the forwarding of information when booking in should be given. Didnt ar the time happen at Clumber, swept under the carpet it would seem, and this site must have been providing most of the cycling public in Nottingham with bikes with the number of times stuff got nicked!

Again I knock anyone for anything, but in this instance of refund, the warden has said they are not authorised and given correct information, refer up, I cant see anymore that can be done.

Im left wondering what insurance is being claimed on?

Certainly warnings on that site now and lock ups also.
