Pros and cons at Haycraft Pros Exceptionally sincere and personal welcome on arrival from lady warden (perhaps the best we have had in 20 years of caravanning) Good position on Isle of Purbeck for Corfe Castle (walkable by footpath) and Swanage. There are some fantastic walks around Studland Bay with many nature reserves just a short drive from the site. Steam railway station 5 mins walk. Great dog walk (one way!) and well mown field for ball throwing. Toilet block old but kept exceptionally clean. Cons Hard standings laid out like a multi storey car park with little room between pitches. On one side we had a neighbours car parked on the grass 3 feet away from our awning, on the other side a neighbours washing line a similar distance from our car! Caustrophobic for a CMC site! The site and dog walk overlook a farm scrapyard on one side. No consistency in enforcing club rules…. We were told to take down a wind break we had put up on the grass, between us and our neighbours, as deemed a fire hazard. Here’s the conversation with the warden: Warden: “Wind break yours?” Reply: “Yes” Warden: “Can’t put it on the grass it’s a fire hazard when left unattended” Reply: “Sorry I only put it on the grass to prevent my neighbour from parking on the grass right next to our awning” Warden: “Yes I know they shouldn’t do that. – You pay rent for the gravel area. That's your pitch. The grass is under the control of The Caravan Club. You can put your wind break up on the gravel That's about it really!” Warden walks off! Interestingly other members had washing lines with clothes left on overnight, a toilet tent and a dog tent on the grass between pitches! One member had a dog area cordoned off on the grass as an extension to their awning, using a wind break! Strict rules about walking around the dog walk one way. We were told off again for walking round the wrong way. We later found a one way sign on the floor!!! All might sound petty…but really annoying and to an extent spoilt our 2 week stay. Will we be back? I don’t think so.
