Good for families

Needs a bit more customer focus

We like the site and area so visit Hillhead every year. This time we noticed a significant difference in 'customer care' Firstly I arrived early..11.15. Yes I know, but I could not find a lay-by in the area so thought as it was low season Id be OK.....Wrong..I was told that they no longer tolerate early arrivals, and whilst I could choose my pitch ( which I did as there was plenty of choice) I could not book in until the warden gave his permission. So I waited for 30 mins in the arrivals lane like a naughty school boy. All a bit childish really. The site facilities blocks were fine but in the Gents, three of the six toilet cubicles were permanently closed, and of the other three, one had a faulty cistern that made a horrible din throughout the building when filling and was in desperate need of a plumbers skills, so effectively two toilets in use, and one morning we were down to one. Closing basic facilities like loo cubicles is unacceptable just to save cleaning them. In the laundry room one day there was an infestation of flies, and whilst they were treated and dead there were literally hundreds of them all over the room, so many it was difficult to get to a washing machine without walking on them. Not very nice at all and left there until the daily cleaning was done. Glad to say that sun, sea and shopping were as good as ever.

I wonder if your review is coloured by the fact you felt aggrieved by nor being allowed on site earlier than the stated time?

Well it didn't help...but I got over it.

However, the closed toilets ( and showers) benefits no one but the staff who clean them. And is Torbay so short of plumbers that none can be found to fix a faulty cistern?...or does nobody really care?

Over recent years the Club has got much more customer friendly,  but the 'system' ie Wardens being jacks of all trades, should in my opinion be reviewed.

An earlier correspondent mentioned that during peak season the toilets etc should be cleaned more than once a day, the C&CC takes pride in checking them several times a day, in order to ensure they are clean and functioning.

It is good that at Hillhead they are taking a stand about early arrivals, I take it that both toilet blocks were in use? both blocks were cleaned by  cotractors last time we were there and then signed of by site staff if up to standard, as for plumbers it is all contracted out and like most work on sites it is not finacially viable to get them in until several jobs can be done on one call, so i think that your supposition that wardens are "jack of all trades"is not correct,

Glad the rest of your stay was okwink

Alan we quite often arrive at sites where we cant immediately book in, normally there will be a notice to the effect  " pitch up andcome back at such and such a time" or we just pitch up anyway. What does not happen is being made to wait in a car park for no good reason because these commercial sites know there is a good chance of loosing a paying customer and that even if one stayed after being treated like that then the review on TripAdvisor would be just as critical as the OP. Llike most people we would cut a site a lot of slack if we were treated properly and none at all if mucked about.

So the sites you mention do not have security barriers?

If I arrive 45 mins early David without any prior discussion I am not the least bit offended to be asked to wait what turned out to be 30mins it seems.

When we have been on club sites ,it is noticed that a member of the sites team have checked the toilets at times away from cleaning hours, but then if members were more repectful of others then ,a good clean once a day should be plentysurprised

I'm not really sure why the OP was feeling so aggrieved. They imply they would have stopped in a laybye, if one had been available. So why the objection to being asked to wait. It's not as if they were turned away. It does after all state earliest arrival 12:00 on the web page.
