Great Stay at Kinlochewe

Stayed here mid May 2023 and had a very comfortable and enjoyable 3 days. The managers, Ian and Michelle, were very helpful with booking in and explaining the facilities available and general information about the area. Nothing was too much trouble for these hard-working, very cheerful and delightful people. Thank you for our stay.

Amazing!

I was made to feel very welcome & had an amazingly relaxing time at the site. The managers were so kind, warm & friendly that I stayed much longer than I had planned too. They kept the site really tip top & put their all into running the site. They were really lovely! The site itself being set in the mountains is spectacular, & feels very peaceful! I didn’t want to leave!

Kinlochewe - star of the Highlands

Great site for those wanting peace, quiet and scenery. Great warm welcome from Ian and Michelle - managed to snag a great pitch looking over the mountain. Facilities immaculate, though a bit aged and some of the bannisters need replaced. Great base for touring - Torridons, Applecross, Plockton, Gairloch and Ullapool all easy day trips. Scenery outstanding. Petrol station opens Mon - Sun and has basic food stuff and hosts a popular cafe. Also shop in village which is well stocked but expensive so come prepared. Nearest bigger store is in Gairloch(16mls) or Tesco/Lidl in Dingwall. Village has Stag Hotel which has a great Malt gantry and does meals, Smaller Gorse Bush cafe is in new hands and about to reopen.

Worth a stop

Stayed for a couple of nights. Exceptionally friendly & helpful wardens are looking after the site realty well with lots of useful local info on hand. The slate clippings throughout may not be to everyone’s taste but we thought them fine. Meal at local hotel (within walking distance) was good. Walks into the local nature reserve nice and varied.

Our best stay of our Scottish adventure

I don’t understand the negative review posted. We spent 10 days at the site and found it beautiful. Ian and Michelle greeted us when we arrived and we’re so friendly and welcoming and were always interested in what we’d been doing and and the places we’d visited. There was lots of information available for walks etc and to wake up to Beinn Eighe behind our caravan was simply stunning. We really could have spent another week here. The coffee shop next the garage wasn’t closed, but it didn’t open until April but you could still get a coffee to take away from the garage next door. The post office 2 minutes walk away also had essentials. The hotel/restaurant was very quirky and the food was amazing albeit slightly limited menu. The hosts were really friendly and we enjoyed 2 meals there. We hope to return one day in the future

Stripped bare?

I've been to Kinlochewe many, many times. It's a site I love and an area which really appeals to me for the access to great hillwalking and outstanding scenery. On arrival, i was welcomed by the relief wardens who were fantastic and very nice folk. What did strike me, though, was that the reception/shop was absolutely bare. Apart from some Elsan and Power Cables there was nothing. No books, maps, guides, odds and ends, no supplies, no toiletries (like forgotten stuff), no pictures, absolutely nothing. It was absolutely bare. This theme continued in the communal areas, no nice photos of the hills, no quirky pictures, no nice little signs. Nothing! The site was never like this in the past, and being directly on the NC500 tourist route this must be such a disappointment for people visiting. This should be a premium site due to the sheer volume of passing tourers. To add to that, after I set up in one of the areas of the site, I discovered the bollard was faulty (no power) and the water had been switched off from the service area serving the pitch I was on! No prior notice of either of these defects. The Club really need to get their act together here. Kinlochewe is a depressed and economically challenged location. Local Grocer is on the verge of closing, local cafe has closed, and the local Hotel/Pub has not opened due to faulty plumbing.

What a great site

Loved our 4 night stay here. Friendly but unobtrusive staff, lots of different pitches to choose from. Scenery breathtaking. We had rubbish weather but still got out to enjoy the walks. Shower block is lovely, new showers but why the dreaded curtain…. Some road noise as it is at a junction, but this is generally during the day. Very handy having a small cafe/shop just next door. Love to come back next time we visit the area.
