Excellent Wardens

It's only our second visit here, as the site seems very popular and as a result, is booked up well in advance. I managed to get an overnight stay on the way back from collecting a caravan from Lancashire. It was the first time I'd towed a caravan, and a warden was on hand to provide assistance reversing the caravan onto the pitch and even helped un-hitching. Although the WC block is not as modern as some other CAMC sites, it was spotlessly clean. There is also an excellent bistro on-site, which offers good food at reasonable prices - the staff in there are attentive without being obtrusive.

Good last minute outing!

Last night ,of our five night, last minute booking to Knaresborough before van is put to bed for winter😥.Last visit here was 2015, can’t remember too much from then but pretty sure there have been improvements. Nice spacious pitches not too overlooked. Service block as you would expect lovely and clean etc. Haven’t really had anything to do with the wardens, it was relief ones who checked us in. Lots of places to visit, Knaresborough a lovely town is a short drive or within walking distance through Nidd Gorge. Handy for York and Harrogate not for us though with having a dog. Visited Brimham Rocks , Ripley, Fountains Abbey all worth a visit, and a stroll on the waterfront at Knaresborough which is lovely, all within a short drive. Had a takeaway from the on site Wanderer Bistro, which is such a bonus on a site, we couldn’t eat in as dogs not allowed inside, the food was excellent and we thought reasonably priced. I did read somewhere that basics were sold in reception but that is not the case. Good on site dog walk, but we tend to go out of the site turn second right, and it’s a super lane/footpath for dogs. All in all a very nice smallish site, and just 40 odd miles drive for us. The lovely sunny but cold weather as helped the enjoyment. A shame last night some friends wanted to join us rang site at 3.00pm and site was booked full. Last minute walk with the dog and at least three empty pitches in various areas.

Fab Staff, Fa Site

Our 3rd visit here and we will continue to go back again and again. The staff really make the effort to be super friendly and helpful, the place is spotless and a smile goes a hell of a long way. Keep up the good work guys ;)

Lovely site with everything you need for a perfect stay!

We had three nights here over October half term and it was a very restful place to unwind. On the approach to the site it looked welcoming and the warden was there at the barrier to meet and greet everyone as we arrived. We received a warm welcome from him as we went inside to book in and pay our fees. The site is relatively small, but this is part of the charm. We don't like lots of hussle and bustle, so this suited us well. The toilet block, while not the newest, was clean and well cared for. The jewel in the crown was the on site bistro, The Wanderer! What a fantastic venue for a drink and food! The menu was small, but perfectly put together and the meal we had was nothing short of amazing. The quality of the food and the service provided by the two young staff members was as good as any top notch establishment! 10/10 for the service guys! Geographically, the site is ideal for exploring the local beauty spots of knareborough, Harrogate and beyond. We enjoyed ourselves so much we are returning in February 2022 for another short break!!

Excellent site

This was our third visit in the last 14 months. We like it very much, with really friendly and helpful staff. Craig the warden went above and beyond to fix a drawer in our caravan - despite being very busy with other duties. Site is very homely with a great layout. Professionally managed by staff who were informative and accommodating. We'll definitely be coming back in 2022.

First stay at Knaresborough!

Our first stay at Knaresborough and we weren't disappointed. A lovely well kept site, spotless facilities. Good dog walk and well mowed field for dog runs. Play park for children. Best was The Wanderer Bistro! What a lovely restaurant, great food, beautiful Sunday roast beef and other half had Chilli, served by delightful waiter and waitress. We ate in but outside area for eating/a drink looked good with very comfortable chairs. Unfortunately we were only stopping one night as on journey south. Hope to return. Highly recommend The Wanderer!

Cleaning standards below expectation

Really like this site but this time I was very disappointed with the cleanliness when using the gents facilities. The floor mat on entry needed vacuuming and remained the same throughout our stay of five nights, with built up grime in the corners. There were also cobwebs including spiders on the inside legs of toilet doors and wash basin enclosure doors. The windows were well ventilated but again cobwebs in abundance. My wife assures me that the ladies facilities were spotless.

Fabulous well looked after site

This was our first visit the the Knaresborough site and we thought it was super- well laid out, immaculately kept, very friendly and helpful wardens and the dog walk was brilliant - plenty of room for our dog to run around but also an actual walk round the outside and plenty of bins for dog waste - the only thing it lacked was some sanitiser when you came out of the gate following opening and closing the catch which everyone else has touched however there are plenty of sanitisers elsewhere. It was great that there was a dog wash which doubled as a bike wash! Having asked for advice on directions on the CAMC Members Facebook page we came along the A59 from Skipton then took the A61 to Ripley and then A6165 and it was an easy journey. People had commented on the "wall of death" coming out of Knaresborough so we were pleased to have been able to avoid that! We walked into Knaresborough along the road and found it very busy so actually caught the bus back - they’re only every 2 hours and 2 singles cost £6.60 so not cheap. We opted to walk in to town via the Nidd Gorge next time which was lovely - steep in places and much longer. The Lavender Tea Rooms in the Market Place was lovely and a great place to watch the world go by and listen to the Town Crier. It's only a few minutes walk to the castle ruins and Bebra Gardens where you can see the famous viaduct. There's some lovely old buildings and narrow streets to wander through - we can recommend the meat from Huttons Butchers in Castlegate. We thought The Wanderer bar and bistro was fabulous- we had drinks there twice and a takeaway Sunday roast followed by desserts as well as eating in one night with friends. The food and drink were excellent and the staff all really friendly and efficient. We would definitely recommend it but it isn't open every day so check in advance. You can take dogs into the outside area but not into the actual restaurant. There was just one covered table outside so it was a bit limited if you needed to sit outside with a dog in poor weather. We did find there was quite a bit of road noise despite the tall trees next to the road and there seemed to be a lot of traffic at all times of day and night however we did get used to it and it wouldn't put us off going again. As well as going in to Knaresborough a couple of times, we also visited Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs, Helmsley, Sutton Bank National Park, Grimwith Reservoir and Pateley Bridge. It is a beautiful area and well worth exploring further afield.

Knaresborough Caravan Club Site

Just returned from our first week-end visit to this site. Great location just outside Knaresborough and if you're energetic the town is walkable (around 45mins). However what is very close to this site is Nidd Gorge a National Park where you can follow various paths, some along the riverside, to Knaresborough. This journey is around 4 miles but is not too taxing and it takes in some wonderful views and forestry. You come to two great attractions one being "Mother Shipton's Caves" and the other being the "Ugly Duckling Tearooms" the latter is where you can get that well deserved Cup of Tea or Coffee and a wide selection of Cakes! Being motor-homers the ability to get to attractions and towns etc is important to us as we prefer to leave our unit on the pitch and explore on foot. Knaresborough C&MC site doesn't disappoint it's easy to get to, although the road leading up from Knaresborough can get quite congested due to extremely narrow and twisty sections where passing traffic can be a bit disconcerting, but if buses and lorries can get through then you shouldn't have to much difficulty, just take that extra bit of care when negotiating the blind bends. On arrival we were greeted by the ever helpful and diligent Warden, and the only downside that he could give us was that the on site Bar/Restaurant "The Wanderer" was sadly closed due to lack of staff. This was a downer as we had heard glowing reports about it. We did find however a great dog friendly Pub with a restaurant called "Guy Fawkes Arms" in Scotton Village which is about a 10min easy walk from the site, and is well worth the visit. The site itself is well laid out into various sectors with the amenity blocks convenient for all. We can't report in detail about these as like a lot of visitors we now only use our own toilet and shower, but I can see no reason why they shouldn't live up to the high standard that seem to prevail at C&MC sites. The pitches are well maintained and mostly quite level. There is a lovely enclosed door exercise field where our four-legged friends can run around and also enjoy themselves. We only had one minor issue with our stay at Knaresborough and unfortunately we have also seen this happening at other sites, and we mean no disrespect, but it is the number of large caravan and car units that now seem to ignore the spacing rule and park their caravans away from the pitch marker to get their caravan, car and awning onto the pitch. Having previously had a twin axle caravan and large 4x4 towing vehicle I know how it is sometimes a squeeze even on the the larger pitches, but the pitch marker is there for a reason. We loved our week-end at this site and will add it to the list of our "Must Visit Again".

Amazing Place

There is too much to list for this site. Great stay, Great staff who were helpful and friendly. Food is good and the beer too. It's easy to get too and a nice area to visit. The toilet block was clean and well looked after. I will be back next year for a longer stay.
